Cannot launch a web browser to open Unifi Controller

Hi,

I’m a long time customer and currently using Total Security I recently came to realise that I am no longer able to open Unifi Controller on Chrome or any other web browser I have (Edge, Firefox and etc.)

The cause of the issue is clear because I can open the controller with no issue when I turn off the Kaspersky Total Security.

Before this issue started happening the broswer would warn me that it might not be safe to proceed but it at least gave me an option to go ahead to open the Unifi Controller. But now it simply says “The site can’t be reached”.

I read this could be due to the firewall but changing the firewall setting (tried the method on this page but didn’t work https://support.kaspersky.com/11154#block1) or even turning off the Karspersky firewall does not resolve this issue.

I also added the IP address (or the localhost one) to the “Trusted URLs” list but it did not make any difference either.

Can anyone please help me with this because I do not wish to turn off Kaspersky everytime I need to access the controller. If this doesn’t get resolved, I would have to seriously consider changing to a different software after my current license expires.

Regards,

Jay

 Hello @RoyalNavy, Jay,

Welcome!

  1. There’s a web interface for UniFi® Controller & it’s used to manage the network?
  2. Operating system name version & build
  3. KTS version & patch
  4. Has the  UniFi® Controller been factory reset?
  5. Are there any other sites that generate  “ UniFi, the site can’t be reached” ?
  6. When did the issue begin?
  7. Has KTS Settings been reset to Default
  8. In Chrome browser, is Kaspersky Protection extension installed & enabled?
  9. Is Private browsing enabled?
  10. Is Web Anti-Virus enabled?
  11. If you attempt to connect to UniFi® Controller using Chrome Incognito browser, what happens
  12. In KTS Reports, are there any events that match “ UniFi, the site can’t be reached” ? IF “yes” Export & or Save the report & attach📎 to your reply?
  13. Has a case been logged with Kaspersky Technical Support?

Please post back?

Thank you🙏

  1. If I open the Ubiquiti Unifi Controller there is a button called “Launch a Browser to Manage the Network” and it opens the web brower with URL https://localhost<portnumber>/manage
  2. Windows 10 Pro (OS build 19041.572)
  3. 21.1.15.500
  4. I think you misunderstood the whole thing. Unifi controller is not a hardware. I have Unifi Security Gateway as my router then Unifi switch and Wifi access points at home and Ubiquiti Unifi Controller is the software (or should I say a UI) that can manage and control the network hardwares. But for the router and other hardwares, I did try to reset and restart multiple times. Again, this is not an issue with the network hardware side.
  5. “This site can’t be reached” message is the default message on Chrome when the browser simply cannot reach the site. For example, if there is no Internet connection, I do get this message from any websites. But when there is connection, I do not see this message anywhere else.
  6. I am not sure exactly when this started happening. I only realised it when I tried to access the Unifi Controller on Chrome about a month ago. It could have started much earlier.
  7. Yes, I have. In fact, I have just tried it again and it did not fix the issue.
  8. Yes. I had the extension installed and the issue happened. I removed the extension and the issue still persists.
  9. Yes, it was always turned on. I have turned off but it does not make any difference.
  10. Yes, it is always turned on. I tried turning it off and even added the URL to the trusted URL list and the exception list but it did not fix the issue.
  11. No difference.
  12. No. As I said above the “This site can’t be reached” is displayed on Chrome and it is the default message when the browser simply cannot find and reach the URL. For example, if I try to open the Unifi  Controller local host URL on Edge browser it says “Hmmm...can’t reach this page”.
  13. No, I have not. Please tell me how to log a technical support because I cannot find a way in KTS. It only gives me link to the Community or Support Tool (sending a report to technical support) or FAQ.

@RoyalNavy, Jay,

You’re most welcome!

  • Log a case with Kaspersky Technical Support, provide a detailed history, including software & system specifics, all actions taken, the Community topic URL, a GSI & Windows Logs, Support may request Traces, they will guide you, fill in the template using our image as a guide. '
  • Additionally, add the URL of this topic to the Incident request.
  • NOTE: IF Support do request Traces, they can be BIG, to share with the Technical Team, upload to cloud  (your choice), create a share link, add the share link to the Incident request

  • After submitting the case, you’ll receive an automated email with an INC+12digits reference number, then, normally, within 5 business days, a Kaspersky Technical Support human will communicate with you, also by email, you may continue to engage with the Kaspersky Technical Team via email or by updating the INC in your MyKaspersky account.
  • Please share the outcome with the Community when it’s available?

Thank you🙏

Hello @stingeer007

Welcome!

  1. Which KTS version & patch is installed?
  2. If Inject script into web traffic to interact with web pages is unchecked, does “UniFi interface Java-based controller in web browser” error persist?

Same issue here, it’s been happening for years across more than just the Unifi devices. In older versions of Kaspersky, I could disable Web Anti Virus and then I’d be able to access the device. In the latest versions, it’s worse and I have to completely shut down all Kaspersky services before I can access the device.

It simply drops all connections to the Web UI at 192.168.1.1 or whatever IP you are using. Chrome and Firefox report connection reset. As soon as Kaspersky is deactivated they work fine.

I’ve spent hundreds of hours trying to get support to do something and have given up. I’ll be moving away from Kaspersky to something that actually respects exclusions setup by the user at the first opportunity.

Running Kaspersky Internet Security 21.1.15.500(c) on Windows 10.

I can only access the web interface on my Ubiquiti UDM at 192.168.1.1 by turning off Settings|Protection|Web Anti-Virus.  It can be turned back on after the login page renders.

I tried intermediate steps of adding 192.168.1.1 to the various exclusion lists at Settings|Protection|Web Anti-Virus, and deselecting various scans/checks in that section of Kaspersky.  The only way that I could access the UDM was by completely disabling Web Anti-Virus.  The UDM is a UDM Base running 1.8.4-2.

Hello,

I think you should set your browser to the following method:

go to “Settings” → “Protection” → “Application Control” → “Manage applications” and find your browser u are using.

right click on your bowser and choose “Details and Rules”

in the pop up window go to “Exclusions” and check “Do not scan all traffic”

type the ip of your unifi controler in “Only for specified IP addresses”:

click save and that solved my problem :)
