Kav + Windows firewall

v1903 / 18362 / 418

I have been using Kav for a few years now and my license will expire soon, I am thinking of switching

to KIS.  If I go to KIS, do I need to Disable Windows Firewall In Services.msc, or leave in running?

Thanks

Hello @HuskyMan,

Welcome!

WFW - leave it as it is.

Regarding changing to KIS:

  1. Prepare the system prior to changing software.
  2. Uninstall KAV, keep “License Key” only.
  3. Reboot - Full Shutdown (not Restart).
  4. Login, download KIS, install
  5. Reboot - Full Shutdown (not Restart).
  6. Start KIS
  7. Sync KIS with MyKaspersky account.
  8. Run manual Databse Update - allow it to complete
  9. Run manual Full Scan - allow it to complete.
  10. Configure KIS according to your requirements.

Thank you.

Hello  @HuskyMan,

Ok, & has there been any KAV/WFW issues?

KIS & WFW work “together”,  WFW defers to KIS.

Leave WFW “on” in Windows settings.

Or, if you wish, turn it off.

If WFW is on there will not be a problem, if there is, turn it off….

If for some reason KIS is “unavailable”, Windows will notify & recommend activating KIS or WFW…

Also , and in addition to above suggestions from FLOOD.

Kaspersky is on install disabling some WD  components,
here are the recommended setups in the Services :

KAV/KFA

  • Windows Antivirus Service : Disabled
  • Windows Defender Antivirus Network : Disabled
  • Windows Defender Firewall : ! Enabled !

KIS/KTS

  • Windows Antivirus Service : Disabled
  • Windows Defender Antivirus Network : Disabled
  • Windows Defender Firewall : Disabled

To tweak Windows Defender please proceed with MSCONFIG or SERVICES.MSC

Hello @HuskyMan,

Something wrong with the portal, I hadn’t finished my previous post & now I can’t edit it.🤔  (in my experience with Kaspersky software = ++++years) there’s been an occasional detection by Windows that’s been “missed” by Kaspersky software.

WFW will not present any issues if the objective is to switch from KAV to KIS.

Thank you.
