How to Disable Network Monitor

Just got Kaspersky Plus and use version 21.25.7.504. I reliazed the Network Monitor under Security tab is always on and records. I don't want my CPU to spend it's cycles to collect and store that data. How can I disable it?

I followed this article but it still records.

The Network Monitor is a part of the Firewall, and will only be disabled together with the Firewall. Of course, it is not recommended. I guess your CPU won't be affected by such a microscopic load.

Hello @Vavien
Welcome!

Before the changes were made - was the original config exported?

Thank you🙏

@Flood and Flood's wife Have you tried to do what's shown in your screenshots? Was there any effect?

I would not disable any of Monitored Ports, that will have a major impact on the security of Your system 🙄

Besides, it won't affect the work of the Network Monitor anyway. These settings are independent of the Firewall and are available even in K. Free. Or after disabling the FW in the paid products.

Thanks for the info. Then I'll keep it on.

Even if it's a microscopic load, it's still a load and doesn't seem to be something mandatory to keep the user secure. Just like the Hard Drive Health Monitor. I think there should be an option to disable the record of data amount and the speed.

If you're asking me whether I got a settings backup before changing the settings, I didn't. I didn't mention it but I also deleted the port list. I took screenshots in order to get a backup. Apparently it wasn't necessary because the export I just did has the default port settings.

I'm gonna add them manually first. If that doesn't work, I'll just reset the settings, export the clean config and diff it with my original export to patch the missing parts. Then I'll import it back. I don't see any reason why it wouldn't work.

I don't think this article gives more information than the app and it's UI itself.

Like I said, I followed the article that I shared.

Why would disabling recording of speed and data amount would be a security risk? I don't have any issue with tracking connected websites/ports. But the records are useless. I don't want them.

If you only knew how many different actions the product constantly performs in the background... And this option will seem like something small and insignificant. Which is not worth your attention. 🙂

In my memory, you are the first person who needs to disable this feature. 🙂

It's about disabling of the network ports monitoring.

Yes, but adding another background task is unnecessary and giving the user control over it should be standard practice. Just like Hard Drive Health Monitor.

The application visualizes this data across multiple granularities: yearly (monthly breakdowns), monthly (daily), weekly ( still daily) and daily (hourly).

Even if we assume only 50 processes are being tracked, that equates to a baseline of at least 100 data points (read and write entries) per day. When factoring in the hourly logging for the daily view, we are looking at an additional 48 data points per day, minimum. While 4 bytes per data point scales to a negligible ~54 KB per year, my concern is absolutely not the total storage footprint, it is the write frequency and the potential constant disk I/O. Let me point this out before you say anything about the numbers below. I know that various programs can do significantly more than that.

To test this, I am currently idling with no active internet-heavy processes. I will check the data written from Task Manager to see a baseline, then start a download via curl (to keep the internet use overhead minimum by not using a browser) and see the difference. If the percentage increase in disk writes is not a big deal, I'll assume it just keeps the data in memory and flushes it to the disk periodically or during a clean exit/shutdown. If not, then the frequent disk activity is a valid concern.

I just finished testing this and measured the disk write differences across 4 stages. Tests are 5 minutes long. Here are the results.

  1. No UI (Kaspersky is on the system tray) + No apparent internet use: 573 kB
  2. No UI + Yes Internet: 549 kB
  3. Yes UI + No Internet: 1274 kB
  4. Yes UI + Yes Internet: 3315 kB

With just one test per case, I don't think we can call it 100% conclusive. But since I kept an eye on Task Manager the whole time and made sure no background tasks like Windows Update interfered, I still think there should be an option to disable it.

Can't it monitor the ports without keeping speed and data records? Do you think it's hard to implement?

Speaking of features, it just occurred to me. Isn't there a dark mode feature on the forum?

Writing to disk is not equal to writing of the Network Monitor component. These may be absolutely other AV components. You can try, e.g, to disable the Firewall and retest.

But for such tests, other serious performance testing tools are needed. Such as Windows Performance Toolkit with Procmon, I guess.

You can submit a suggestion to support to add the disabling of this feature.

I've never seen it.)
