This file contains temporary data of Kaspersky, the size of 1,6Gb on the disk is normal. You can disable Self-Defense in the Kaspersky product, then exit Kaspersky product and delete the file.

I have deleted  the file g_objdt.dat but on restart it always recreates itself in the same size

Hi @serbest

What is the size of g_objdt.dat in your system?

The file is recreated and its size of 1-2Gb is normal. It is a temporary file for Kaspersky, like swap file in Windows (a swap file, also called a page file, is an area on the hard drive used for temporary storage of information.).

its size is 1.2 gb but I wanted to know if there is a way to move this temporary file to another hd instead of C

Hi, I use a KSOS on Windows Server 2012 R2

This file is now up to 21 Gb.  Is this normal? Can I delete this?

Hello @gcampra

Welcome!

Yes, it's normal, it's as per Kaspersky design, please read comments by @Igor Kurzin

"This file contains temporary data of Kaspersky. Disable Self-Defense in the Kaspersky product, then exit Kaspersky product and delete the file."

IF the issue repeats, uninstall the Kaspersky software, saving License information *only*, then do a clean install.

Thank you🙏

Hello, @gcampra

Usually this file is automatically deleted and recreated after the computer is restarted or powered off. Have you never closed it? resulting in such a large file.

Regards.

@Igor Kurzin Hi Igor, maybe this is an opportunity for improving the Kasperksy suite. I also find G_OBJDT.DAT (1.2 Gb) and G_OBJID.DAT (111 Mb) cumbersome. I don't like to spend megabytes in my SSD. Try to keep my boot drive clean from unnecessary files greater than 100 Mb. It would be nice if the Kaspersky suite allows installation on a second HD, and customization options for temporary files (file size limit/automatic deleting, or setting an external - not in the SSD - temporary folder for it). I don't mind if it is via Powershell or the like.

Many thanks in advance!

Hello,

Are you sure about that? Just found such a file with 6GB, creation date 2021 and yes I do restart my PC every few days.
Any way to get rid of that without having to hack my own machine? ... in the year 2026

EDIT: I also have 'max size of reportfile' to 500MB - which is obv. ignored. (AVP 21.3)
The note below the [Clean] buttons says: 3,45MB - IRL its 6GIG!

Hello @Zork

Welcome!

  1. Absolutely positive - IF that's not happening with (your) installation something has gone amiss & needs to be managed manually to rectify & get back to *normal*: image.thumb.png.9ea5c47acf227f438d3fca00ecd11f90.png
  2. Hack - what do you mean? It's housekeeping.
  3.  Disable Self-Defense in the Kaspersky product, then exit Kaspersky product and delete the files. Then shutdown the computer using SHUTDOWN, not Restart, power ON by pressing the Start-button, login, check if the issue is resolved OR run the computer in SAFE-MODE & delete the files, then shutdown the computer using SHUTDOWN, not Restart, power ON by pressing the Start-button, login, check if the issue is resolved?                                                                                   image.thumb.png.92bd1cc96ed82a9ffea4130be2535805.png
  4. ALSO - which version of Kaspersky is *actually* installed? IF it's 21.3 it's outdated!! In Windows Taskbar *Hidden-icons*, rightclick the Kaspersky icon, select About? Kaspersky is up to 21.24 - which is what should be installed - IF (yr) software requires updating, use: https://www.kaspersky.com/downloads#update-product - it's (yr) choice whether OR not to install / update a new version over the top OR do a clean install, IF doing a clean install - save LICENSE information only, after installing the new software - run a Database update followed by a shutdown & power-on of the computer - login & monitor for the original problem? IF it repeats log the issue with Kaspersky Customer Service (KCS):  https://support.kaspersky.com/b2c#contacts, select Email, fill in the template as shown, provide a *detailed-history* -> select (yr) Kaspersky software from the drop-down-list (A)                                                                                                                                                                                 image.thumb.png.50bf1bc28d8921ff976aeea0a65385bd.png

Hello, Sir and Lady Flood!

Thank you very much for the timely reply and all the valuable infos.
First of all: It's DONE, all is fine (*) -
Solution as you layed out perfectly:
- disable self-check,
- close the app (works simply via try-icon-menu), this releases the file locks,
- wipe the whole 'Report' folder. drive´s fill meter back to blue, NICE!

(*) Status Quo: 2MB in 6 hours uptime ... will see in a day or two where this is going ..

Housekeeping is how I found the file in the first place ;)
Used 'Hack' neutrally in the sense of (having to) 'use a system in a non-intended-by-design way' (what "turning off an engine during flight" basically is ... ;))

Quite likeable actually, and so satisfying to see the fill meter snapping back ;) Thanks again for that!

Current version is 21.3.10.391 and the app tells me everything is up to date.
Is there a way to force an update from the GUI or would I need to download/run the newest installer-bootstrapper?

Does 21.24 contain any essential updates (does it handle the Reports-files differently maybe?) or better protection, performance, etc. or just nice to have the latest GUI?

Sure, 3-step solution see above.

One more thing, if I may:
Wondered if it's possible to write a batch or powershell script to automate that 3-step-procedure.
Should not be possible I guess, since that's what any intruder will attempt to do.

.. lets ask the robot:
Note: Attempting to forcibly terminate antivirus software via script can interfere with system security and may trigger defensive actions by the software itself. The provided search results do not support or validate methods for disabling security software.

Maybe not such a good idea ;)
Thanks again, dear Floods, have a good day!

Hello @Zork

You're most welcome!

We're delighted to read the first part of the issue is resolved! Well done!

21.3. is *up-to-date* for 21.3 but it's positively medieval, it *should* have been updated to the most current version 21.24 *automatically*, however, oftentimes, when installations go awry that may not happen - as would appear to be what's happened with (yr) Kaspersky software.

21.24 is Kaspersky's new generation software - (you'll) see many changes, it's much more than window-dressing, READ: About Kaspersky solutions & What's new in the latest version of the application  remember (refer to the image below) -> in every Kaspersky GUI - a question-mark in the top-right-hand-corner (C) represents a link to HELP documentation AND 21.24 has a SEARCH field (D) -> for best results use simple-search-terms, for example fire will open the Window where the Firewall module can be accessed...

Don't mess around with PS, batch-scripts or anything else - do as instructed, either download on top, at the end of that process run a Database update, then shutdown of the machine using SHUTDOWN, not Restart, power-on by pressing the power-button, login, monitor OR do a clean install, IF doing a clean install - save LICENSE information only, after installing the new software - run a Database update followed by a SHUTDOWN & power-on of the computer - login & monitor for the original problem?

After the shutdown & bringing the machine back online - at some stage - we would expect seven days max -> a patch may be released to (yr) installation - if all things are progressing normally there should be a notification -> and the action/s (you) need to take -> normally a reboot to apply the patch - image - our installation on patch(a), after receiving notification of an *automatic-update*, a reboot/shutdown applied patch(b)

Thank you🙏

Huh, curious ... went to mykaspersky, downloaded the installer from there and lo and behold, its the bootstrapper for exactly the currently installed version 21.3.10.391

Seems to be a licence / product line problem? my licence is for K.Internet Security, which got decommissioned/rebranded?

Should I try a complete uninstall (on all my 5 devices?) ... oO

Thanks a lot for valuable help!

Hello @Zork

Welcome back!

  1. K. Internet Security has been replaced by Kaspersky Standard.
  2. Do ONE machine at a time.
  3. (IF this were our machine/our problem) -> given the mess it appears to be in with files not clearing & old versions not being automatically updated - which actually explains the oversized file problem - we would *uninstall* K. Internet Security using Windows ADD & REMOVE programs - don't do anything fancy, stick to the basics - save LICENSE information only - at the end of the *uninstall* REBOOT the machine with a SHUTDOWN ->
  4. Then use: https://www.kaspersky.com/downloads#update-product -> after installing the new software - run a Database update followed by a shutdown & power-on of the computer - login & monitor?

Thank you🙏
