  1. Dear Tobias,

Thank you for getting back to us.

Regretfully, our experts did not share the requirements for a program to be included in the Software Updater feature. So we cannot determine why such an application is not listed in the Software Updater.

Should you face any more issues or have any further queries, please do not hesitate to let us know, and we will be more than happy to assist you.

    We remain at your disposal.

    Dear customer,

    Hello!

    Hope you're doing well.

As mentioned earlier, Kaspersky does not update all the apps out there. It updates only the most popular and important applications. The apps that are not the latest version according to patchmypc.com / home-updater have to be updated manually.

Should you face any more issues or have any further queries, please do not hesitate to contact us again, and we will be more than happy to assist you.

Thank you and have a nice day!

    Hello @always_working

    You're most welcome!

    1. & 2. Version updates are done automatically via total force update - TFU, the updates are released around the globe in a staggered distribution, a version update may arrive on (your) machine, it will sit & wait for the machine to be rebooted or 7 days/168 hours to pass; IF the machine is not rebooted in that timeframe & the 7 days passes, the Kaspersky icon (on Windows taskbar or hidden icons) will turn red, the Kaspersky icon, in the main window GUI will turn yellow, there will be a notification in the Notification center - advising the device requires rebooting & there may also be a notification in the Windows Action center.

Now you're clearly like other Kaspersky subscribers who think it would be useful to know a version has arrived, when it *actually* arrives - like why wait 7 days? We know IF we knew a version was sitting in the wings, we'd be applying it - but no, Kaspersky in all their wisdom ship the version & then wait & wait & wait for 7 days before showing any sign a version has arrived; go figure?

So, if you haven't rebooted (your) computer recently, you may wish to do so; IF a version is waiting it will be updated; otherwise, you'll need to wait for the version to arrive.

1 & 2 used to be documented, sadly that's no longer the case for the new software release.

    Thank you?
    Flood?+?

    Kaspersky for Windows release notes

Wow this sound kind of crazy that you need to wait 7 day for any type of notification that you need to restart your computer. Sounds kind of bad and would that not lead to your computer being kind of open to vulnerabilities during that time frame?

    Hello @tokar86a

    Thank you for the update/information.

    Nothing surprising in that blurb.

The original Software updater never worked properly & *now* all they done is renamed it to App updater & published it in the new version.

They were the ones who identified / queried (you) about Google Chrome - in their first response to you, the onus is on them to explain why Google Chrome is neither popular or important?(ioo).

    Thank you?
    Flood?+?

i send them and ask following question: So how do I know that the App update is working like it should if I don't know what type of application it should check?

Did support explain to you why/how Google Chrome is 'not' popular or important - by their definition?

No they have not done that. And it don't seems like they can or want to explain way.

    I send them this replay:

    Hi

So if i understand this correctly they don't know what type of applications that App update is checking to see if it is an update available? The only thing they know or want to share with the audience is that it must be popular or important applications that it checks.

So every Kaspersky installation decides for its own what type of applications that fit this description and decide that it should check if its an update available for that application? That sounds a bit strange to me that it should be working like this. Feels kind of random?

I receive this respond on that.

    Hi Tobias,

    Thank you for your email.

The same process is followed in all Kaspersky installations to update applications. We are sorry to inform that the information of how the process is executed, however, cannot be disclosed.

Please feel free to let us know should you have further queries. We shall be happy to be of help.

Thank you for contacting Kaspersky Support and have a good day!

  6. @Flood and Flood's wifeHere is the respond that i got from the support.

    Dear customer,

Thank you for your patience. It's greatly appreciated.

Our experts have just responded with the following update.

    Let me answer your questions:

Q1. Is there a list of the applications that the App updater update?
    ---
Answer: There is no such a list, regretfully.

Q2. If there is any article providing the list of applications?
    ---
Answer: No such an article, sorry.

Q2. Could you also ask them what requirements need to be fulfilled to be included in that list?
    ---
Answer: There are no requirements and no procedure to follow to add some applications to that list. This process is completely internal and not disclosed to the outer audience.

    Have a great day!

Kaspersky's browser extensions are not managed by Kaspersky's App updater & never have been managed by Kaspersky's Software updater (in the old version) & App updater in the new version.

And i am not asking about way the Kaspersky's browser extensions is not included in the App update.

That type of update is handle inside the browser. Like other extensions update

    Hello @tokar86a

Thank you for posting back the extra question.

Poor choice of words on our part, Kaspersky's browser extensions are not managed by Kaspersky's App updater & never have been.

    Thank you?
    Flood?+?

And that is not what i mean ether. I was more mention it like if you consider the time it take to develop a browser extension then you consider the browser to be popular and well use right and something that should be supported?

Then it feels strange then the browser that you support whit "Kaspersky's browser extensions" is not supported in the Kaspersky's App updater.

12 hours ago, Flood and Flood's wife said:

So Chrome & Winrar are not *popular & important* applications, if we go by that answer from Kaspersky support

Like you wear talking about here. Its popular enough for a browser extensions but not popular enough to be included in the Kaspersky's App updater.

I hope this make things a little more clear what i was talking about.

How do you mean whit not manage by the installed Kaspersky application?

Kaspersky's browser extensions is communicating whit the installed Kaspersky application.

    Hi

I was thinking about that they are thinking that the software is popular enough to have a extension that helps you stay safe on the internet but its not popular enough to be included in the app update list.

    Hello @tokar86a

Thank you for posting back & the information!

    1. ?Please clarify what is meant by " at the same time it is not supported whit the app update."? Do you mean because Kaspersky Standard is not listed in How to enable the Kaspersky Protection extension in Google Chrome, Mozilla Firefox and Microsoft Edge based on Chromium? IF 'yes', that documentation applies to Kaspersky v21.3. The MR9 rollout is yet to complete, documentation for new release is also yet to be completed.

Kaspersky Standard | Plus | Premium, Kaspersky Protection extension, Hardware and software requirements, Browser support is supported for:

    • Chromium-based Microsoft Edge 77.x – 107.x;
    • Mozilla Firefox versions 52.x – 107.x;
    • Mozilla Firefox ESR 52.x, 60.x, 68.x, 78.x, 91.x, 102.x;
    • Google Chrome versions 48.x – 108.x.

    Thank you?

I was more thinking about the extension: https://chrome.google.com/webstore/detail/kaspersky-protection/ahkjpbeeocnddjkakilopmfdlnjdpcdm

  12. @Flood and Flood's wife

Something that feels strange when it comes to Chrome is that they provide a extension for the browser (https://support.kaspersky.com/common/start/12782#block5) but at the same time it is not supported whit the app update. Its like saying that we want you to be secure on the web when your are visiting website but we don't care if the software is outdated.

According there own data +10 000 Kaspersky user have Google Chrome installed.

When it comes to Discord it is +100 000 Kaspersky.

    This is Kaspersky`s own data.

Kaspersky could sort this really easily by improving the documentation (ioo).

Yes it kind of strange. I send them a replay where i wondering what type of application is included in that list. Still waiting on a replay on that list of application that it update.
