  1. Flood, Your test showed that the 2 scans are pretty similar . Confirming Yuri’s explanations . Following our last exchange I reset KSC Free to the default configuration just to start with a fresh set up, than I checked the box enabling the rootkit scan , rootkit scan being the same than quick scan but using less ressources , and I scheduled a full scan weekly. Thats it I wont play with it anymore . Once again merci Flood for this interesting exchange :-)
  2. Hey Flood !! Thanks for your reply its really appreciated . One thing for sure, your system is not infected after all these scan :-) Dont know if you agree but it looks like that KSC free is configured by default to protect our equipment as is with no real needs to play with it. I even think that many must have reduced their protection without knowing it by playing too much with it . Bitdefender free was kind of like that , install and forget , but contrary to Kaspersky they offered no option . I prefer by far Kaspersky approach , I have options available and I like that even if I will not use most of them . So with your valuable input, and with the help of other members here I will not try to be smarter than Kaspersky. I will only schedule a Full scan once a month and forger about it . As suggested Non critical event log is turned on , curious to see what is going to come out of it Thanks once again Flood :-)
  3. wishcolosoul … I,ve received a notification through email, but there is no message here … thanks for re-posting it :-)
  4. Flood , thanks for your input here , here is one more for you :-) If a Rootkit is not in: system memory, boot sectors of the disk, and objects loaded at operating system startup it will not be found by a Quick scan So I understand that a Rootkit can be located in the computer but not necessarily in system memory, boot sectors of the disk, and objects loaded at operating system startup ? Hence the need for regular Rootkit scan Am I right ? So if its the case , and if rootkit scan , scan the very same thing than Quick scan but only deeper to find hidden Rootkit then….. who needs a scheduled quick scan when one have the rootkit scan that is taking care of everything on a daily basis while using less ressources ?
  5. Nexon , I was ok with your post up to the last sentence… 😉 apparently quick and rootkit scan ARE the same , but not processed the same way . For what I understood the rootkit scan is a quick scan but with the portion rootkit done at a lower speed using less ressources while the quick scan portion is done normally , both are happening at the same time … well thats what I understood
  6. Dennis , thanks for the link … so for what I understood from Yuri is that KSC gave us the option of scheduled quick scan but the protection would be the same with or without . So if we just install KSC as is , and forget about the scheduling option or else we are fully protected and most of the options are redundancy of what is already running automatically behind the scene . Looks a lot like the approach choosen by Bitdefender free . Install and forget . KSC also let us choose install and forget but also left few options for us to play with however the more I read about it the more I am encline to just return KSC to default setting ( adding only a full scan a month ) and forget about it , like I was doing with Bitdefender free when I tried it … Need to say that I came back to KSC form Bit free and that I am satisfied with KSC not that I feel much more secure , but I like the fact that KSC let us know what is happening behind the scene , something lacking badly with Bit free. Thanks KSC for this free and excellent product
  7. Hummmm …. its not that I want to start a war here, but I am getting conflictual information ? :-) One say they are different they other the opposite :-)
  8. Hi, I’ve read somewhere that I dont really need to schedule a daily quick scan to increase my computer security if Kaspersky cloud free is doing a Rootkit scan everyday by default , is it true ? Thanks
  9. Flood, Berny Problem solved 😉 , i decided to re-install KSC Free and voila , the comma are now at the right place giving me a number making way more sense, the last scan returned 1,616,919 yeah !!! The scan last 4hr 28 mn !!! Its a lot of files and I am surprised about that since other AV never returned that amount, not even close . But maybe this is why KSC is the best free AV available to home users ? 🤔 I have scheduled a full scan once a week is it too much ? I dont mind to work my hard drive intensively for 4hrs 30 a week but only if it is necessary . I have also scheduled a daily quick scan . anyway , merci beaucoup to you both for your support its really appreciated to have people like you in this community , have a great week !!!
  10. Ive tried with scan new files only and same results, looks like the odd numbers start when hitting the hundred thousand files 168205 looks like 1,68,205 … strange
  11. Berny if we end up with the only option being a cosmetic bug how can we pass the info to K-lab ?
  12. Merci Berny , Flood is looking into it too so ,with the help of you both ill get to the bottom of it :-)
  13. Dont know why the scan started and stop so many times , I was sleeping at that time , but that did not play a role in the amount of files scanned since the same type of number display happenned in other full scan , again thanks for looking into it :-)
  16. Flood Thanks !! ok I understand that, but can you tell me from that number 10,78,362 how many files KCf scanned ? Looks to me that a zero is missing somewhere or that a comma is misplaced
  18. Window report that I have 525000 files on my C: drive. Previous full scan with a competitor product report around that number of files scanned Kaspersky cloud free report that 10,78,362 files has been scanned How one interpret 10,78,362 ? Or how many files is 10,78,362 ? This number doesnt make sense as far as I know , I need to understand that Thanks for your help,
  19. Andrew75, :-) I can understand that but the detailed reports show 10,19,289 files scanned !!! I have looked in my drive C yesterday and 525 000 plus or minus 5000 I cant remember were reported . Now I am not sure how to read the KSC reports number with their comma placed everywhere :-) Can you ? Is it 1 millions , nineteen thousands 2 hundreds eighty nines files ? Maybe , but even its a minimum of 400000 more files than what bitdefender scanned and or window defender !! However its not 10 millions I guess I pushed my luck there :-) anyway thanks for your message its appreciated Andrew hopefully Ill get the answer im looking for since the Russian mathematics are kind of strange :-) lol
  20. Hi, I have installed KSC free yesterday. During the full scan the program returned over 10 millions of files !! The scan took over 3 hrs 45 mn . I had Bitdefender free installed previously and I never went over 710000 files and IIRC never took more than 1hr 45 mn to 2 Hrs 15 mn , same with window defender . What I did wrong ? should I reinstall KCS ? That doesnt make sense at all , any idea whats going on ? I didnt touch any setting other than asking to scan Detect other software that can be used by criminal in Threat and exclusion settings thanks for your help
