Hi folks,

I think I've come across an issue in a recent update to Kaspersky for Mac - am running version 15.0.1.378a.b.

As of this morning, I've found my OSX to crash with the spinning beachball, forcing me to press the power button to shut down the Mac. Shortly after the system starts up, when I try to launch anything or do anything, it crashes. If I disable Kaspersky protection, everything is fine.

I've tried uninstalling Kaspersky, and everything is fine when it's uninstalled.

When reinstalling using the download from kaspersky.co.uk, the initial build runs fine. As soon as I update and the latest version and definitions are installed, I get the crash out within a few minutes of booting.

I recall there being an issue with dodgy definitions previously. Could this be looked into please?

Thanks,
Gopha.

Am also finding it impossible to complete an on-demand Full Scan. Can do this only if I disable Kaspersky on-access scanning (Protection: Off).

As soon as I turn protection back on, and do something simple like open a new Chrome tab, whole system hangs. If I disable Kaspersky, system suddenly starts responding again.

Am convinced it must be a recent update - as per the diagnostics in my earlier post.

Cheers,
Gopha.

Yes I have the exact same issues, my macbook air crashes on ALL software packages, frozen to the 'rainbow circle of death' and nothing works, not even the Apple system software to close out running software packages such as the corrupted Kaspersky Internet Security application. I'm in the process of logging a complaint to Kaspersky also. My system was working perfectly fine until the latest updates. I even tried the option to install yesterday's updates under the false illusion that this would have been repaired within 24 hours of the corrupt update file being sent out, but alas no, it crashed even faster than the previous version....from 2 mins, down to about 30 seconds.

I sure hope this gets fixed very quickly as I've only just swapped over to Kaspersky in the last couple of weeks, and this is not the experience I was hoping for coming into university exam and major assignment period!!

It's still not resolved as of the updates sent this morning.
There's also people post on the Apple's Discussion forums about this as well. It's definitely Kaspersky - other people have seen the Kaspersky process going red-line on the Apple Activity Monitor (https://discussions.apple.com/message/28879578)

Seems not unlike the major issue back in 2013: http://www.pcworld.com/article/2027173/bad...-websites.html) except this prevents anyone from doing anything on their Mac at all, not just websites.

Could some of the Forum admins here escalate this please to R&D asap?

Thanks,
Gopha.

None of today's updates have resolved this. I update, reactivate protection, and within a minute of doing anything, the Mac grinds to a halt with the spinning beachball.

Force a shutdown and startup, disable Kaspersky, and continue using the machine without any issues.

Undoubtedly Kaspersky causing issues.

Hi,

I have the same issue as described here.

Kaspersky is crashing and freezing my macbook pro 13'' 2015. It stops hanging and crashes if I shut down Kaspersky completely.

I thought I had to take it in for warranty repairs but it's just KAV/Kaspersky doing it.

Indeed - I thought I was facing a rebuild of my Macbook.
Even after doing an uninstall / reinstall of Kaspersky, the problem still exists, as soon as the latest definitions are downloaded. I wonder if it's the latest 'b' release of v15 of the software?

Could this be anything to do with the emergency patch that Kaspersky pushed out to counter the zero-day vulnerability and buffer overflow exploit that was discovered last week? Or was that just PC versions of Kaspersky?

Cheers,
Gopha.

I've received a reply from Kaspersky Support that confirms the B iteration of Kaspersky for Mac, released at the end of last week, is causing this issue.

I've been sent a link to download and install a 'special' version of Kaspersky which will not automatically update to iteration B, but I have asked Kaspersky Support if they can address this more centrally, and release this patch for all users, as there are clearly a number of us affected by this.

If you have not done so already, it is worth raising a ticket via My Kaspersky to contact Support, and I'm waiting to see what their reply is. The special version involves removing the previous version, but I can't see this being a viable solution for the many KIS Mac customers - who will expect a proper patch to be seamlessly deployed to their machines.

I would expect a version C iteration to be released to correct the issues from version B.

Has anyone else had a reply from Support as well?

Cheers,
Gopha

No reply yet. But a ticket in my kaspersky has been opened. I'm sure they will get around to it soon enough.

Hello folks,

If you've disabled KIS for Mac, please start it and update Kaspersky databases. The issue should hopefully be gone.
If you've uninstalled it, you can download it here to install it back - http://products.kaspersky-labs.com/multila...ru_sv_tr-be.dmg

The thinking originally was the the issue could've been caused by patch B, however, now as we are getting multiple reports that it's been resolved, so it was likely with regular updates, rather than a patch.
Should it persist, please reply in this thread.

Our support has also been giving out builds that do not update to patch B to those who submitted support tickets from EU. If you got one you can just go ahead and remove it and install the regular version.
\

Edit:

The issue persists and is apparently caused by Patch B, as initially suspected. Please contact technical support if you haven't done so already. If you were already issued a special build by technical support (the one that does not update to Patch cool.gif, please keep it for the time being.

Ran into the described situation first on Thu 10 around noon, mine is an all-current 10.10.5. Whatever activity or process on the Mac, all of a sudden it was just the beach ball and crappy responsiveness. After examining activity monitor and log files, I tried and discovered that the mess would end just when deactivating protection. Since then, no issues.

Only today found this thread, and updated the database as recommended by Go0g3n. Reactivated KIS, immediately got prompted with the beach ball mad.gif .

Database update took place 10:45 local.

11:45 local: Rebooted the system to verify, and beach ball symptoms stay the same. Current status: Activation of protection renders my computer unusable.

So it's persisting right now with up to date database updates?

It does look so. Where can I look up the actual db version?

Databases indicated as issued on 15 Sep 2015, 09:40

That's the one. Okay, so we are now back to considering the issue as not resolved and caused by patch B. Thanks for the update.
