How is OS Type determined? I have a number of PCs that are running various OS, some Win7, some Win10 - sometimes the OS is identified and sometimes it's not. The issue with this is I am not moving PCs into groups UNLESS the OS can be identified. I.e. - I don't want zebra printers, phones, etc in my PC groups. As a result, I have PCs that sit indefinitely in the "Unassigned Devices" container.

I'm running 10.2.434 with 10.2.4.674 AV.

I've added as a requirement to my relocation rule that "Network Agent is running = Yes". This prevents printers or other devices without the agent already installed from getting moved to the Managed computer group.

That's a really good idea. But the problem with that in my scenario is the PCs in question don't have the network agent installed yet because they are still sitting in the "Unassigned Devices" group.

Hello.

This depends on what the issue is (which hosts' OS is detected and which isn't), but still recommended, and required in order to escalate any possible issues.
Please note that you will still need to install the same version of Network Agent on hosts, regardless of OS version, and it can be done even for the hosts in Unassigned devices.
This will allow KSC to determine OS version by means of the Network Agent rather than network discovery from polling.

Thank you.

Thanks for your reply. I've had the issue on both Windows 7 and Windows 10 - this specific issue is with a Windows 10 PC. I will look to upgrade but will not be doing that this minute.

Is there a recommendation for how to install the network agent on PCs that are still in "Unassigned Devices"?

Hi,

We doesn't have any recommendations for installation on computers in "Unassigned Devices". All you need is installation task for this group.

Thank you!
