Is Kaspersky Cleaner a Trojan?

Recommended Posts

talon115

I have been using the Kaspersky Cleaner for several mths now and found it to be a useful tool ... I recommended it to a friend that lives in the UK ... yesterday she had a techie come out and look at her computer ... and today she had problems with Chrome ... on contacting the techie again she was informed that it was in effect a Trojan ... anyone else heard this?

Firstly, no. Kaspersky Cleaner in no way shape or form is a Trojan, at least not that I am aware of. If it was an issue with a trojan or some form of malware, it most likely came from a different source. Also, is that "techie" competent enough? Maybe it was his mistake? What were the problems with Chrome?

Hi JoshRoss  ... thank you for your reply ... it seems that the malware has now extended to all browsers and not just chrome.   It is saying "Sorry, you must have cookie enabled to use this site" it is not on all sites only one site ... but the site in question doesn't have a secure connection .  Trust me ... I know it wouldn't have been Kaspersky ... however ... that is what my friend was told ...

No offense to your friend but is he a certified IT expert or Cyber Security expert in any shape or form? We can all read information and convince ourselves that we are right. In any case, It seems like you could be dealing with some form of malware. At the top of "Virus-related issues" there is a second topic, in which you can find Logs. Could do the required scans and place the logs here?

No offense taken at all Josh ... they are supposed to be certified ... and she went to 3 different companies ... and all said the same thing ... BUT .. on saying that ... the 'perpetrator' was a worm ... I asked for a log of malware and viruses found ... but the techie who did end up sorting out the problem for her .. has deleted her records ... this has me intrigued ... 1. because the trouble didn't start until after the 1st techie got into her system ... in the last 3 days trying to sort this out ... she has spent over 500 pounds ... a lot of cash ... if from one company I could understand .. but 3 ... I have total trust in Kaspersky ... which is why I wrote here ... I just found it strange ... am still digging .. but thank you for your replies .. really appreciated

Is Kaspersky Cleaner a Trojan? That would be a No. :)

Instead of closing this topic earlier, I am closing this topic now.

If you suspect infection, please see: Kaspersky Lab Forum > English User Forum > Virus-related issues > the second (2nd) pinned topic.
There, you will find instructions for GSI and AVZ logs; you can open a new topic there and post your logs.

Please see the small print that is located at the bottom of this message.
