KPM 4 users have to pay again for the 5.0 update...?

Recommended Posts

Many KPM 4 users don't understand why they have to pay again for the 5.0 update while v4 release has still many bugs and was without any update since the launch.

Can also Kaspersky explain us why a clone product "sticky password" exists with exactly the same menus, several updates year and with the same major version at the same time? And the same price. It's very confusing for customers.

Sticky password

It's time to change the commercial attitude to keep customers.

Kaspersky password manager is a rebranded version of Sticky password. Kaspersky licensed it from Sticky password for their own use (integration with Pure/standalone KPM).

So the question is Why intermediate releases of sticky password manager4.* haven't been avaible for Kaspersky users ? No integration problems fot standalone KPM

Hi Charlie78,

All I can do is to completely agree with you! I can't understand this behaviour from such an important security software provider.

But as 3x0gR13N told you, "Kaspersky licensed it from Sticky password for their own use (integration with Pure/standalone KPM)".

It seems that Pure has token advantage on other products...

By the way, I'm still looking for any upgrade policy for KPM (see "http://www.kaspersky.com/license_renewal") while, there is one for Sticky password. But maybe am I missing something.

I just feel like you... a bit... desapointed !

I also just want to add that the integration of Kaspersky products on Win x64 paltforms is still very, very, very limited.... I should say too limited! Especially for the so usefull sandbox technology... But this is another threat.

If you check "http://usa.kaspersky.com/store/product-upgrades" you will see the first line states "As a Kaspersky Lab customer, you may upgrade to our latest version at no cost, as long as you have time remaining on your existing license."

This does not distinguish between products, "a Kaspersky Lab customer" covers all products, including KMP.

I think it may take a while, but Kaspersky will eventually realise that, for existing KPM customers at least, they have no choice but to give free upgrades (or support version 4 for as long as people use it (lifetime!)). They can of course change the licensing policy / wording moving forward for new customers. However if they deny existing customers with "lifetime licences" upgrades or support for version 4 they might have a few lawsuits on their hands...

Well, I would have agreed with you if I did not find this following the link given about the upgrade to KPM 5 on the sticky notes : http://support.kaspersky.com/faq/?qid=208283141

Can I activate Kaspersky Password Manager 5.0 by an activation code for the previous version of the application?

No, You cannot. In order to activate a commercial version of Kaspersky Password Manager 5.0, you should purchase a license key for Kaspersky Password Manager 5.0.

I guess they just manage the "lifetime" licence as : the application is not linked to the need to renew any licence for it to be functionnal as long as it is installed on your computer...

Ok that's it for me! I just decided to switch to 1password. It is not the most secured app but I have both Mac and Win computers and it works on the two OS.
