Help

Daughter just started University. She is using wired internet supplied by halls of residence. Her laptop has Kapersky Internet Security 2011. When she fires up her laptop Kapersky tells her that the databases are out of date but at the same time is requesting a Proxy Username and Password, Kapersky won't update the virus definitions without the Proxy Username and Password.

Before going to Uni (2 days ago) she used the machine at home accessing the internet over our home Wi-Fi with no problems.

Can someone assist with the answer to this please???

Welcome. Check system date/time correct, then Settings > Update > Settings > Update source > Proxy server > uncheck proxy server > ok>ok>ok. If still no go, attach the update report.

Upper right of Kaspersky window, Reports > lower right > Detailed report, lower left > My Update center, then lower left Save, save it somewhere and attach it to your next post.

If the file is too large to upload, then zip it (right click, send to > compressed zipped folder) and upload the zip.

Thanks for your suggestion. Tried as you said but made no difference. The kapersky then tried to automatically update and generated a message " Task Failed Error Connecting to Update Source". Returned settings to original and saved report file as you suggested, pls see that attached.

Might be a red herring, but if she's getting a Proxy Authentication Error, after booting into Windows, is she then having to log into the University's own systems before she can actually get online? For example, similar to some hotels where you have to log into their network with a username/password before you can get online.

If so, then it sounds like whatever university system she's having to log into has a problem with her user account (i.e. nothing at all to do with Kaspersky). In this scenario, she'd need to speak to the university system administrators.

Might be best to describe exactly the steps of what she does with the PC after she's booted it up, logged into Windows, etc.
