Pause protection during backup

Recommended Posts

We are using Backup Exec 12.5 and Kaspersky Admin Kit 8.0.2090 with 6.0.4.1424 on the servers. How do I pause or turn off the scanning while backups are taking place?

Locally: Settings > File Anti-Virus > Customize > Tab Additional > Pause task

It's nearly the same through policy.

but if you pause for the real-time protection, there's no real-time protection as long as you doing backup and take the vulnerabilities by your own risk. The question is "why you have to pause the protection?"

Because scanning during a backup could add a significant amount of time to your backup window. At one of our locations not pausing during a backup is a 6 hour backup as opposed to a 2 hour backup and 6 hours does not fit in their backup window.

Of course in default setting, that's the point why customize setting available. you can specify how file antivirus scanning your file, by format or by extension. If you choose by extension, it can reduce for time scanning and which drive should monitoring by file antivirus, for example you can specify drive except drive that you use for backup and then if your all network using kaspersky as your antivirus you can also uncheck for "all network drive" which monitoring mapping drive.

and then, you can trusted backup program process and it's dependencies for kaspersky prevent intercept this program running process. you will get scanning time result same as you disabled protection and one more your system still protected.

I understand where you're coming from and we tried a number of configuration settings and although there was reduction in backup times the differences were minimal. I'm sure a lot of it had to do with this specific backup scenario which was a mix of Backup software and custom scripts but basically nothing helped as far as configuration went and pausing protection solved the issue in this case.
