The new KVRT version Crushed my Windows 11

Recommended Posts

I downloaded at 30.7.2023 the "Kaspersky Virus Removal Tool application" (https://www.kaspersky.com/downloads/free-virus-removal-tool). For the first time it asked for reboot for drivers (before the scan). But the system, Windows 11 pro 22H2 (OS build 2261.2070) version 10.0.2261 Build 22621, failed to start. There was nothing I could do but to restore to my latest retore point, to fix it.

Since then I'm afraid to use KVRT again.

Did anyone had this same problem?
Please check the KVRT.exe. It act like a virus this time.

Hello.

No other such complaints. Seems it's specific of your computer. Please

1) Run KVRT with traces https://support.kaspersky.com/kvrt2020/diagnostics/15677

2) Decline reboot (select "Continue without reboot")

3) "Start scan" and wait complete

4) Close KVRT

5) Send traces to me in private message

After that the system should boot. Check by rebooting yourself.

It just happened to me too. My PC won't boot at all neither in BIOS menu or anything. What should I do ?

I was able to "fix it" without having to "restore to my latest retore point" .

Basically,  after Windows automatic repair was failing without solving it,

1. Uninstalled latest Windows update from there

2. Opened cmd and executed: sfc /scannow - which stated that found broken windows files and fixed them

3. Performed another automatic repair, which managed to boot my PC in a "updating state"

4. Restart PC

There is NO chance of using KVRT again.

P.S.
If you have two monitors plugged, idk why but for me only the HDMI port from my graphics card was able to display anything on the output.

  • 1 month later...

Had the same issue with KVRT 20.0.10.0 and Win 11 22H2 (22621.2428)

I was able to fix it by deleting the kvrt drivers with windows restore cmd

  1. Run "Command Prompt" from the "Troubleshoot -> Advanced Options"
  2. Go to "Windows\System32\drivers" on the disk of your windows installation (you can list all disks with the `fsutil fsinfo drives` command and find the right one)
    fsutil fsinfo drives
    cd /D <YOUR_DRIVE>:\Windows\System32\drivers
  3. Search for *.sys files created recently (list by creation time). Must be some <random-8-characters>.sys and klupd_*.sys
    dir /OD /TC

  4. Remove these *.sys files
  5. Close cmd and reboot
  6. Success!
