All,

I currently have a fully licensed copy of the Kaspersky Security Suite v1.1.53. I would like to install KIS 6.0. Can I install KIS 6.0 right over the top of my existing product? Can I use my existing license key? I aplogize if these issues have been addressed earlier.

Yes, you can do it that way, but i would recommend that you uninstall (it will ask you to uninstall anyway) all three componets of the old suite and reboot, before installing the 6.0 suite. :)

During installation, Kaspersky Internet Security 6.0 will detect the following products and ask you to uninstall them. Running Kaspersky Internet Security side-by-side with the products listed below may cause your computer to lag or even to be rendered inoperable:

Don and crew,

I have already fielded a few calls from users who after uninstalling KAV Personal 5.0.527 could not get the new install of KAV 6.0 (not KIS in these cases) to accept their existing license keys (the one that worked with v5). I have asked these users to uninstall KAV 6.0, reinstall v5 and then install KAV 6.0 over the top of KAV 5 - during the install process KAV 6.0 detects the existing key and applies it automatically w/o problems. Not sure what the problem is with the "clean" install, but this is what we are suggesting for now.

Yes. But how you install over version 5 when version 6 asks you to uninstall version 5 and reboot?

Rick, i have already uninstalled/installed the 5.0/6.0 combo 10-15 times and never seen this problem (with 5.0 uninstalled already), just place the key beside the installer in the same folder and off you go. :)

Yes Rick - and when you get the problem that I fielded calls on you can do what I suggested. ;-)

I'm sorry mike, i didn't mean to sound like a "besserwisser" or anything like that, it's just that the reason that both me and Lucian recommends this is because we have seen installs done like you posted in the last month were 6.0.0.299 was tested where it certainly worked, but if the user then uninstalled and cleaned both 5.0 & 6.0 remnants off the HD, then reinstalled, the pc was smoother in operation immediately.

Anyway, we should bookmark and link to this thread, now users have a couple of things to try before calling/mailing support. ;):)

I was just suggesting that a cleaner uninstall would be better.

That is what the Release Notes and Instructions say in Post #3

I have been Beta Testing Version 6 and allways do clean uninstalls

and use KAV/KIS Remove and KAV Registry Clean when I reinstall

another version. even within Version 6 builds.
