IE stops working after install of KAV

Recommended Posts

I have installed Kaspersky Anti-Virus for Windows Workstations 5.0.255 on several workstations and on 3 of them I can't navigate with IE anymore. Everytime I try to open a page I see the icon of KAV working for a while, afterwards IE suddenly dies without any apparent reason, a few times it returned a blank page with "Error on page." written on the bottom left.

I tried to disable the real-time protection but problem persists, IE gets working again only after uninstall of KAV.

Firefox doesn't seem to have problems.

The 3 computers have different hardware but same OS: Windows XP Pro SP2.

Any idea?

Hi marvinresearch,

which scanner was installed before?

It was not the real time scanner. Kaspersky uses scriptchecker inside the IE.

The Firefox doesn´t use this scriptchecker.

As Helmut mentioned, was there a Scanner from another Vendor installed before and the other possibility is an installation of UDF/Packet-Writing CD/DVD Software e.g. Ahead Nero InCD or Veritas DLA or ...

Before there was a scanner of Symantec, I uninstalled it from all machines before proceding with KAV's installation, 3 of them out of 18 gave me this prob.

I'm gonna check if any packet writing sw is present, I'll let u know.

I tried disabling the script check in the real-time settings, but I could still see the grayed KAV icon in IE, is there something else to do?

Thx.

Hi Marvin

If Norton/Symantec has been installed previously, then often you need to do some cleanup after it has been uninstalled.

1. Use search to find & delete Norton/Symantec files/folders left behind.

2. Use Regsupreme to clean the registry, run it (use normalmode only, not aggressive), when finished scanning you rightclick and select "All", then you click "Fix" at the bottom, it will ask you if you wish to make a backup and you do, just to be safe.

3. Reinstall Microsoft windows script, which an Norton uninstall of ten messes with.

The above is best done without Kav installed.

Btw. The scriptchecker icon is always there, the fact that it is grey means it is disabled.

Hi Marvin,

you cannot deactivate the script checker inside real time scanner. The script check inside real time scanner and script checker are not the same.

Please read the following FAQ

I'm having some problems - don't know if it is the script checker or just the icon - with the latest 5.0.527.
