Type about:config in the address bar and hit 'Enter'. In the filter bar, type google. Give me the name of the parameter that site appears in as a value.

From what I understood on the Russian forum, the goal is NOT to block sites as a whole for everybody. Of course anybody has a right to do that for him/herself, but the title of the address lists should clearly suggest that it is a site blocking list, and not a banner blocking list...

Paul

Yes I am understanding correctly then, but what if it is a known malware domain, why would you allow some of the domain?

Has the team looked into whether it can handle such a list, regardless of the fact it isn't specifically designed originally for it?

If not will it be incorporated at some stage, where by a known list can be effectively added then if not by a banner list?

Your problem deserves separate attention in the anti-virus section. That sub-domain is not among the standard parameters. I'd advise you to do a file search with something like total commander or Free commander (not by 'name' but by 'contains') to see where this sub-domain is indicated as an imperative (maybe in the registry). I also need a full list of your add-ons and plug-ins.

Hi Dawgg,

The record you edited belonged to MVPS, so I was not sure what to do? Paul has already cleared my doubts, but why did MVPS added this domain to their list? As for the trusted malware domain list which one do you recommend?

Regards

Ziaul

I dont know why its on there and didnt look at most of the links.

I dont know about trusted lists, I dont use any nor hosts.

You mean domains spreading malware? (like av2010.net etc.)

If so, I think its better to leave suspicious/malware spreading domains to malware analysts at KL, if we add something like that it would bloat-up (+ overlap with the existing DB) and slow down surfing. smile.gif

Yes, thats what I mean. I personally dont think KL is very effective at doing this.

Yep, overlaps are the major flaw and of course, we dont know which KL block (unless we go on each of them... I'm not volunteering for that!)

Agree. Maybe have an extended base?... 1 for just banners, 1 for banners+sites.

Also many users do not know what a Host file is so do not know how to block malicious websites

Would be nice to have a page with subscriptions like Adblock Plus: Known Adblock Plus subscriptions

Especially good is hackrus: he has special lists for:

Hackrus`s list anti-advertisement (general)

Hackrus`s list anti-advertisement (supplemental)

Hackrus`s list anti-count (against counters)

Hackrus`s list anti-export (against all kinds of 'informers', news export, etc.)

Hackrus`s list anti-other (special block lists against blogs and forums, annoying smilies, etc.)

Hackrus`s list anti-porno&adult (being developed)

Hackrus`s list anti-video (against video on certain sites)

Hackrus`s list anti-image (against nagging images on free file-sharing resources)

Of course, this is all specific Russian...

Site black-list is rather new, give it a bit more time to develop. KSN has a big role in that area and the DB is going to grow constantly. That amount of work: checking if there's an overlap, if the domain is alive and if it's going to stay alive for some time (not disappear after a day- it's pointless to block it in that case) etc. is just not worth it.

Bottom line, the feature already exists, AB is not designed (not that it's not capable) to be used in that way. Just IMO. :)

Hi Paul,

I have attached the screenshot of my plug-ins and add-ons. Also I applied that same list in one of my friends computer and his ff's home page got blocked too. I checked mine and his registry and found two entry under HKEY_USERS\s-1-5-21-220523388-299502267-725345543-1004\Software\Microsoft\Search Assistant\ACMru\5603 and another one under HKEY_CURRENT _USER\Software\Microsoft\Search Assistant\AMCru\5603.

It would help with reducing the anti-banner to some extent, but is it worth the resources, guess it is the teams decision.

Extended base as Dawgg suggests?

This is only a discussion point for me, as the protection is already there. Realistically the router should have this list, but it seems the last thing that is to be added for the home use, unless a lot of money be spent to upgrade. I'm getting off topic though. :)

An extended database yes (with an option to turn off/on), to the point where it doesn't overlap with the existing WebAV site-blacklist. p2u has posted a list (@#57) in which direction the extended database should possibly go. Plus, as it is now, the AB blocks some stuff which isn't a pure banner/ad, like:

_http://www.google-analytics.com/ga.js Firefox Denied: google-analytics.com/*.js Databases

which could be considered as an extended DB in early stages.

Regarding slowdowns and hardware. If the program isn't created to handle big lists, a Quad isn't going to help much. :)

Go to www.fhm.com and the entire site is blocked unless you add the main url to the white list. It's not allowed to load period.

It would be good if you could submit a site as safe and it then gets checked (quickly) and if safe added to Adblocker's internal white list.

It is also listed in my hosts' file. So there is some reason why Kaspersky would have added it to the databases.

^ It *might* be an error..

The Kaspersky guys may have added entries from lists available on the net and/or compiled by the users in the Russian forum..

(that might contain errors or something that was made to serve a purpose on one system but accidentally got included in a big list)

I would think twice before blacklisting fhm.com (for obvious reasons) :wub:

Being blocked by Parental Control is one thing, but Anti banner..? Hmm..?

Would be good if we know exactly why this website is being blocked by AB.

1) Regarding fhm.com

it still says:

4/25/2009 10:36:58 AM    http://www.fhm.com/    Firefox    Denied: \    Databases

Denied: \

2) komli.com

Source: http://www.komli.com/

Advertisers

Website using it: http://www.zeenews.com

(ViziSense : Track User Activity)

Code:

<!-- vzSense -->

   <script type="text/javascript" src="http://vizisense.komli.net/pixel.js"></script>
   <script type="text/javascript">_vz_accountID="eIwmoTYnduIYN7BJM+fqHA==";_vz_sense();</script>

   <noscript>
     <img src="http://vizisense.komli.net/cgi-bin/trail.fcgi?accountID=eIwmoTYnduIYN7BJM+fqHA==&isScript=false" style="display: none;" border="0" height="1" width="1" alt="vzSense"/>
   </noscript>
   <!-- /vzSense -->

Black List: http://*.komli.net/*.js

??

3) There is a video player on right side (jw player) of zeenews.com

Who could help to remove that? :b_grins:

(Its annoying because it starts by itself, and the page refreshes automatically, so that means even if you stop the player, it will start after a while)

Hello shah jahan,

The video player on the right side (jw player) of zeenews.com (cover page) could be blocked by:

*zeenews.com/mediaplayer/getxml.aspx*

Or something better...

The original link is (p.ex):

http://www.zeenews.com/mediaplayer/getxml.aspx?id=2348

The number in the end of the link corresponds to the video number.

This link will call the file "getxml.aspx" with this content:

<?xml version='1.0' encoding='UTF-8'?>

<playlist version="1" xmlns="http://xspf.org/ns/0/">

<trackList>

<track>

<location>http://img.zeenews.com/26-AMAR SINGH.flv</location>

</track>

</trackList>

</playlist>

You can see the address of the automatic FLV video in the above content.

When you click on the links of the other videos, they aren't affected because they are in this format:

http://www.zeenews.com/video/showvideo2348.html

The miniatures (reduced in size) videos are called by:

http://www.zeenews.com/gethomevideonew.aspx?id=2348

Have a nice day.

Hi Cameiro

It doesnt work for me, even after entering in Black List :unsure:

This is the link of the Video:

http://www.zeenews.com/getInnerNewVideos.aspx

<embed src="/mediaplayer/playerbkp.swf" width="300" height="250" class="video_pic_border_1_J" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true" flashvars="&file=/mediaplayer/getxml.aspx?id=2364&linktarget=http://as1.jivox.com/jivox/proxy/proxy.php?_jvxurl=http://www.qantas.com.au&controlbar=over&autostart=true&displayclick=link&icons=false&repeat=list" />

I dont know why nothing seems to be working here..

The links you gave werent able to block the video.

Hi.

Insert only this line in the "Black List":

*zeenews.com/mediaplayer/getxml.aspx*

Close your browser;

Clean up the cache;

Try again.

With the above line in the "Black List" there is no video playing when accessing "http://www.zeenews.com/" with: IE, Opera, Firefox.

firefoxi.th.jpg

If I enter this URL "http://www.zeenews.com/getInnerNewVideos.aspx" nothing is played either using the code above.

Have a nice day.
