  1. Recently Kasperksy Internet Security 2012 ( downloads the update but it still reported as 'out of date'. I have verified that the proxy setting is turned off and have tried forcing the download site to be US instead of Automatic. Any thoughts?
  2. So far so good. avp.exe is consuming less than 1% CPU after 24 hours of running. One strange observation today though is that the Task Manager cannot be displayed. When I hits Ctl-Atl-Del and select Task Manager nothing happens. Lucikly I also have Process Explorer by sysinternals.com installed. Thanks for your help.
  3. Tried deleting all files in %TEMP%, however one file cannot be deleted. FXSAPIDebugLogFile.txt cannot be deleted because it thinks it's being used by explorer. Even after a reboot this file cannot be deleted. Could this be some infection of some sort? I have re-installed KIS on C: and things are running normally for now. My slow downs usually start after a day of running, so I'll post my results tomorrow.

  5. I am running Kaspersky Internet Security 2011 ( on Win7 x64. My computer has many pauses of several seconds, where applications report back not responding. They all eventually do run. When I look at processes, the avp.exe system process consumes an average of 12% of the CPU. I have tried unchecking the box "Perform regular rootkit scan" but that has no change. I downloaded getsysteminfo4.exe (GetSystemInfo but that program always crashes after about 20 minutes. So I am unable to provide results. Any suggestions on how to proceed? My last full scan which took 3 days, reported no problems found.
  6. I had to rebuild my Win7 x64 OS from a backup image, however I activated a new license for Kaspersky sometime after the backup image was made. I do not want to use up another of my 5 licenses on the reinstall. How do I get the activation server to reuse and old activation so I don't waste one of my 5 licenses?
  7. I had a virus that came in through spam email. Kaspersky 2011 detected the virus and but did not remove (delete) the offending email so I manually deleted it. Kaspersky then reported the virus to be in my Recycle Bin, so I emptied the Recycle Bin. However, Kaspersky still reported the virus as being in my Recycle Bin. I finally decided to run the Rescue Disk in hopes that Kaspersky would finally remove it for good. The Rescue Disk program ran for about 8 hours on my Win7 x64 RAID1 C: and reported no viruses found. I then tried to reboot, but the Rescue Disk (Linux) shutdown process hung at umounting file systems with the hard drive light almost solid on. After about 30 minutes I decided that Rescue Disk was helplessly hung and I forced a power cycle. Upon attempting to reboot the Windows boot loader reported C: as damaged. Successive attempts to repair did not succeed. Bottom line I lost all of my data since my last backup not due to a virus but rather the program that was to protect me from viruses. I have a full backup about 3 months old and will have to try to recover from that image. Very disappointed with Kaspersky at this point.
  8. I believe their update servers are so slow because there are thousands of installs that never complete the update. Mine has been slowing down my entire system by repeatedly restarting the update process. I get to between 20% and 60% and then starts all over again. With many installs behaving in this manner it becomes apparent why their servers are so slow. The update actually averages 1.3M bytes/sec read/write to hard drive and has been causing my Win 7 machine to report "(not responding)" for several seconds at a time on any task that needs to do disk I/O. I had this issue intermittently in 2009, 2010 and now 2011. Maybe time to look for another AV product as I only have 43 days left on this activation.
  9. The skin actually does not clear the data, it just doesn't show it. Also, the Skin_CF1_400 has at least one bug where the dialog box is too small and there is no way to resize it. If you go back to the default skin the statistics for the entire period are still there. I too wish to clear the detection statistics as several of my users have called me to say they have a virus when in fact the virus has long since been removed. Hopefully, Kaspersky will add the ability to clear those stats in future releases. Pete
  10. I am noticing that Cygwin Xwin.exe hangs occasionally since installing KIS7.0. I have disabled Proactive Defense but XWin stills hangs occasionally. I suspect maybe the firewall is to blame but do not know how to precisely isolate the cause. Can anyone offer guidance on how to determine what network traffic KIS might be blocking? Is there a log of all actions that occur by the firewall?
  11. Disabling the proactive defense did not solve the problem. The only thing that works is deleting the registry entry. Can anyone say what I lose by deleting the registry entry? HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\Windows AppInit_DLLs = C:\PROGRA~1\KASPER~1\KASPER~1.0\adialhk.dll I will remove it for now.
  12. By deleting that key I am now able to cut & paste without Thunderbird hanging. What is the anti-dialer used for? By it's name it sounds like it is for a modem dialer detection. I do not have a modem in this system. I will try disabling proactive defense (only activity analyzer was enabled) and restore the registry key. I'll report back with my results.
  13. Since installing KIS 7.0 I have had issues with Thunderbird hanging when pasting text into a composition window. I searched the Thunderbird support forum and found a mention of this problem being caused by a registry key. The key is: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\Windows Thunderbird Bug https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=334500 KIS 7.0 has set the AppInit_DLLs key to: C:\PROGRA~1\KASPER~1\KASPER~1.0\adialhk.dll What impact will KIS 7.0 have if I delete this key?
