Hello.

I've installed Kaspersky AV for Windows File Servers on a Windows 2008 Server and since that my server is too slow. Task manager show several avp.exe process running.

I downloaded the currently installed version from this link: http://www.kaspersky.com/productupdates?chapter=146274391
(english file version of "Version 6.0.3.837")

After that, I bougth a valid license and apply it. And now my server is out of order because is too slow. What can I do? My file server is k.o. and cannot be used in a right way because this lack of performance.

Thanks in advance.

KAV 6.0 для Windows Servers is not compatible with Windows 2008 Server - http://support.kaspersky.com/win_server6mp3?level=3
You should use KAV 6.0 для Windows Servers Enterprise Edition, if your license is allow it.

You're lucky your Server 2008 still running after installing SRV 6.0.
My Server 2008 fallen to BSOD after reboot :-/

1) Dear, Kaspersky Lab! Please update your KAV 6.0 SRV installers with error message "Your OS (Server 2008) is not supported!".
2) espiralms, you're welcome check Beta 8.0 thread nearby. There is KAV 8.0 SRV Beta which is non-EE. Your "File Server" license applies for it.
(Also beta-license till 03.2009 provided.)

That is so frustrating. I just spent $300.00 a few weeks ago on Kaspersky for Windows File Server. I could have sworn it explicitly said that it will work on Windows Server 2008 and even if it didn't, should I not assume your product will work with the latest products they are supposed to support. A fancier edition just because its a new version of Windows Server?? Seems like an excuse just to get more money and not support existing customers. I knew very well i was switching to 2008 in a few weeks and I find this so irritating. Is there an upgrade price at least?

On top of that, it doesn't warn you when you install it. And after uninstalling it, it actually "LOCKED ME OUT OF MY COMPUTER". I could no longer remote desktop to my web server. If that isn't some BS, i don't know what is. Luckily I had an emergency "force reboot" feature.

I've recommended you guys to so many people and I feel you all have let me down as a customer. And when you buy something, it should be very clear it doesn't work with anything newer than what's listed. It's like making a program that runs on Windows XP but not Vista. Pretty stupid if you ask me.

KAV 6 for FS is 'older' than Windows Server 2008. So as it was developed, Windows Server 2008 wasn't available. It's kind of hard to develop a product for a OS which does not exist.

I agree with a lot of the points made. I installed AV for Windows Server on my 2008 and it blue screened.

The annoying thing was I downloaded it from Kasperskys website. Surely they could rebuild the package and add a warning at the beginning if it's 2008. Then at least any new customers who download it won't be caught out.

It can't be that clear that it won't run in 2008 if quite a few people have fallen faul of this. Luckily in my case it was a new server I was testing on and wasn't live.

HiCarl,

you are right a lot of "administrators" make this mistake. But before I install an application I read the System Requirements.

I agree with you.. I check the requirements too.
However it doesn't say in the documentation 'that it doesn't run in 2008 and will break the server', only that it does run in 2000 and 2003.
If they know it has problems installing on 2008, even just a line of text next to the system requirements saying "Note: don't install on 2008 server etc". would do.
That would take minutes to update and roll out the new PDF file to the download site.

They could also name there products a little easier. e.g. perhaps;
AV for Windows Server 2000/2003
AV for Windows Server 2008

Why the "AV for Windows Servers", and an "AV for Windows Server Enterprise Edition". That simply suggests a standalone product, and an enterprise product.

I'm sure they have their reasons, and I don't work for Kaspersky so I don't know. I guess it's just us stupid 'administrators' dry.gif b_lol1.gif

Well, because Kaspersky Anti-Virus for Windows Server Enterprise Edition is not just for Windows Server 2008. It's needed for clustered environments, Terminalservers, Citrix-Servers and Windows Server 2008.

And it takes what, 15 minutes to update the web site with the appropraite information prominently displayed, and what, another whole 15 minutes to rerun the installer package creator with the "Only Install On the following OS's" options selected?

I don't think anyone has a problem with the fact that it won't work with the newer Windows. As you said, it takes time to develope a product.

I think a lot of folks have a problem with the RTFM response, and the lack of any effort on Kaspersky's end to keep the wrong program from being installed on the wrong systems.

If providing excellent support is your goal, you don't blame the customers, you fix things. And the fixes suggested are minimal, and nearly cost free. There's simply no excuse for you to NOT have fixed the real issue, that the program isn't clearly flagged as incompatible and that the program should flat refuse to install on an OS it will not function correctly under.

Please, stop calling your customers fools, and just update both the web site and the installer.

It's been, oh I dunno, 6 months or so since I was bit by the same problem, and I am still angry enough about it to have noticed this thread and written a reply. A few more negative experiences and Kaspersky could lose a customer, and a reseller. That'd cost you a whole lost more than fixing the issue would.

Hello,

A note has been added to the website for while now, please have a look : http://www.kaspersky.com/productupdates?chapter=146274391

About the possibility to update the program itself, there may be some restrictions we are not aware about, it's not an easy task as it is not just a problem of adding a new check in the installer but a complete process to follow.

At least that's answered one of my questions, which one to install on my 2003 Terminal Server. smile.gif
