Full Version: Admin Kit cannot synchronize to workstation

I am running KAV for Workstations V6.0.3.830 on the workstation involved which runs Windows XP Home with Service Pack 3 installed and all updates. I am running Admin Kit V6.0.1572.

Every time I try to synchronize with the workstation from the Admin Kit, I get the message about being unable to synchronize until the workstation is on the network. Naturally, the workstation IS on the network and in fact I can run an update from the Admin Kit from the workstation. What I cannot do is synchronize.

I just did a full uninstall and reinstall of the product on the workstation. Still can't synchronize which leads me to believe the problem is on the Admin Kit side, not the workstation side.

I ran klnagchk.exe with and without --restart on the workstation and it reported no errors, and also tried a Force Synchronize from the Admin Kit menu. Nothing worked. It still will not synchronize from the Admin Kit.

Can I run some sort of check on the Admin Kit to determine if the problem is on its end?

Any ideas? I can't open a support ticket for the client (I do tech support for them) since that needs the email address used to order the product, and I don't have that available to me since he's gone home for the evening and I know he didn't use the actual store address.

Please take a look under Network/Domain if there is a PC with the same name and ~..

There's a couple of thing you should do.

Upgrade your admin kit
  • Go here
  • Download and install the newest version of the admin kit (it will install on top of the other one)
  • Re-deploy the new admin kits network agents across your domain.

As for the rogue workstation
  • Open the admin kit
  • Right click on Network: (domain, acitve directory, ip subnetworks)
  • Select Find
  • Find your rogue pc by typing it's name with an asterix at the end (*). This will locate duplicate entries.
  • Delete all instances of the workstation in the bottom box.
  • Go to the rogue pc (remotely or locally)
  • Get into a command prompt.
  • Type /ipconfig flushdns
  • Then /ipconfig registerdns (only if you're using dns on the network)
  • Close the cmd prompt
  • Open services.msc, make sure you have windows firewall disabled and that klagent is a service running.
  • Disable simple file sharing in your group policy (gpedit.msc)
  • Go back to the admin kit server
  • Find that pc by name in the Network > Find function again.
  • Select it, right click and move it to the group you want it moved to.
  • Give it 3 or 4 minutes to refresh.
  • Go to the group you moved it to, and try to synchronize.

That should do it.

All the above steps are OK, but simply not enough (as I am sure there is NOTHING wrong with your setup)

The funcionality was buggered in Version 6.0.1710 of the Admin Kit

And this is down to the fact that in this version the default port 15000 UDP is not being used at all!

One has to create NetAgent policy & on the Network tab specify check & SPECIFY Network Agent port (being it 15000 or whatever) & when that gets applied to all the workstations then no more strange behaviour like that

You've tested this, and it works? I'll run some test cases with customers and see how well it does.
