For some time now IE7, both 32 & 64 bit versions, crash at 1 in 10 new WEB pages, with message scrchpg.dll error.

I was advised (here) to try this:- http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details...D6-524E7E844D81 - but it no longer exists on MS net.

It did seem to be associated with jscript.dll & vbscript.dll but both mine are version 5.7.0.5730 which appears to be the latest Windows Script 5.7.x.xxxx

A search with Windows Explorer for scrchpg.dll shows several versions (see attachment)but the 2 most recent are 155 KB and 179 KB (this in x64 folder).

How do I overcome the crashing of IE7, please and what to do about the scrchpg.dll? Your help would be most appreciated.

PS I uploaded a 125KB image of all scrchpg.dll files but blew the post of this message.

Hello,

What was the previous Anti-Virus application installed on this computer ? Norton Anti-Virus ?

Also post a GetSystemInfo report of the affected computer.

Hi Tybilly, Thanks for reply. Have run GetSystemInfo but file is 993KB size. How do I attach that with a 300KB limit? Have not touched Norton in 10 years now - some 3 PCs back from present. Last before Kaspersky was Zone Alarm (June 2006) but since they did not support 64 bit systems I came to you. The old Zone Alarm records & files exist on the drive though but do not run and were uninstalled.

Hi,

Put the file sysinfo.txt in a zip archive and attach it to your reply.
Old Zone Alarm records & files may be the reason why you re experiencing such issue.

Also as a workaround and to avoid crashes of the web browser you can follow these steps:

1. Disable Self-Defense of KAV in Settings > Service
2. Click on Start, Run and enter the following command:
regsvr -u C:\Program Files\xxxxx\scrchpg.dll
Replace xxxxx with the exact folder where the file is.

This will disable checking of scripts in Internet Explorer by KAV, but viruses will still be catched by the File Antivirus protection component.

OK - have now disabled "Self-Defence".

The regsvr is regsvr32 and Running regsvr32 fails claiming
{LoadLibrary ( “C:\Program”) failed. The specified module could not be found}
despite it being in C:\Windows\System32; C:\WINDOWS\SysWOW64; and C:\Windows\system32\dllcache

Other regsvrs exist:- REGSVR32.EXE; aswResvr.exe; wregsvr32.exe

Finally have zipped sysinfo2.txt, down from 900+KB to 120 KB as sysinfo2.zip hopefully.

The file should be in the installation folder of KAV WKS and sorry for the mistake, the command is:

regsvr32 -u
