Full Version: Business space security abandoned?
Kaspersky Lab Forum > English User Forum > Protection for Small and Medium Businesses
mingano
I purchased a multi-year license fo KAV business space security. My machines are currently running the antivirus component of 6.0.3.837 while home users are currently on version 8. It would appear that 100% of efforts are being focused on the home user products at the expense of the office environment products.

Will the business space products *EVER* be upgraded? If not, please let me know now so I can start planning a replacement product once my current license expires.

Official beta of version 8.0 will appear at the end of October 2008 supercool.gif
Baz^^
It's already happening. There are internal builds of the new business line being tested already and official beta testing will follow soon.

Admin Kit v7 (or should that now be v8?) was slated for a December release, so I guess the other components will be cropping up about the same time.

Here's the actual roadmap I've got :

Kaspersky Anti-Virus for Windows Workstation 6.0 : MP4 in Q4 2008/Q1 09
Kaspersky Anti-Virus for Windows File Server 6.0 : MP4 in Q4 2008/Q1 09

Kaspersky Anti-Virus for Windows Workstation 8.0 : TR Q4 2008
Kaspersky Anti-Virus for Windows File Server 8.0 : TR Q4 2008
Kaspersky Administration Kit 8.0 : TR Q4 2008

Kaspersky Security for Microsoft Exchange 2007 : MP1 Q4 2008

Kaspersky Anti-Virus 6.0 for Microsoft ISA Server Standard Edition (2004/2006) : Beta Q4 2008

Kaspersky Anti-Virus for Linux File Server 6.0 : TR Q1 2009

Kaspersky Anti-Virus for Linux Mail Server 5.6 : MP1 Q4 2008

Kaspersky Mobile Security Enterprise Edition : CR Q4 2008

MP = Maintenance Pack
TR = Technical release (Commercial release usually follows 1-2 month later)
CR = Commercial release

Cheers

i actually think MP4 will be V8 or v8 will be mp4... depends on what notation they keep
a.Markov
Don't think so.

As the v8.0 is a totally new product based on KIS 2009, they have to maintain v6.0 in parallel at least for 6 month or a year. So we'll get a MP4 of v.6.0 and a brand new v.8.0...

Don´t worry! Be happy! ... Jejejeje ... b_punk.gif

The versions to end users of Kaspersky (KAV and KIS) have improved so that the end user a better experience with the "antivirus" because we are very paranoid and we have little experience in technological issues! dash1.gif

In versions (KAV and KIS) will meet with "Parental Control" so you can protect their children while they connect the Web, also provides a better visual interface, which is more friendly!!! bf.gif

In addition, the product "Kaspersky" is just as effective or efficient in both home users and in small or large companies! smile.gif

However, products for small and big companies can be managed under a domain or workgroup, which will not be managed a license of KAV or KIS for the end user. blink.gif

Yes, yes, yes… sleep.gif there are differences between them in the administration, but the product remains the same and equally magnificent!.

It is hoped that brings new versions of small and large companies.

For now, my suggestion is: Do not think of changing your license, continue with Kaspersky and quiet sleep! happy.gif

Hey!!! forgive my English! biggrin.gif

A hug! bs.gif

Any word on the update?
stpeterugger
Anything new on this?
Syn
Kaspersky Antivirus for Workstations as well as Administration Kit version 8 are both in beta build testing. Expect a release in Q1 09 (mid March or so).

Q1 has all but come and gone, is this still in the works or has the business space platform died?

Would rather let Kaspersky take more time to test before go live.

I completely disagree. If Kaspersky wants to keep my company as a customer, they have to demonstrate that their corporate customers are at least as important as the rest of the customers. If v7 was good enough for consumer-grade, it should have been released for corporate customers a few months (at the longest) after its consumer-grade release. Ditto for v8. The fact that v8 already approaching a year old and corporate customers are still on v6 should be considered embarrassing.

Kaspersky should be doing the following (overdue) things right now:

1. Demonstrate that BusinessSpace is a top priority and is supported at an equal or (preferably) higher level than the consumer products.

2. Talk about the development of the next release. This is where transparency counts: publish some technically-oriented presentations discussing the roadblocks the developer have been fighting on the path to a new BusinessSpace release. Recall that when 6.0 came out, there was a thread discussing suggestions for it. I even posted my suggestions for a post-6.0 release there before realizing that it was merely an un-maintained thread from the last release (which of course highlights the lack of attention BusinessSpace and its customers are receiving).

Just my 2 Yen.

For home users, you may simply update/upgrade and any error, just re-install.
For business environment, we have more functions like KAK, KAVFS, KAVWSEE, KAVWS etc. workstation may not a problem mostly are same
as home user products, but not file servers version.
They have to make sure all functions and distribute out. Else you may not see KASPERSKY in av-comparatives any more. supercool.gif
Simply said, home use product is pilot run for business product. Same to computer manufacturers as well. b_punk.gif

I don't disagree anywhere, but it has been a very long time with no word. That's my complaint. As I said, I understand that the business solution needs more work and has to be more hardened, but if there's going to be such a disparaging difference in the product line, there has to be a very visible reason, or else the consumer-grade version (KAV7, KAV8) should never have been released. It's all about priorities, and it certainly appears that Kapsersky's support at the corporate level is a non-priority.

Example: KAV6 performs horribly, but since KAV8 doesn't exhibit this problem, nobody from Kaspersky is addressing it, even if only to say that BusinessSpace is moving to KAV8 "soon" ...

At the very least allow me to continue to use the beta version - it works better than v6 and Kaspersky loses nothing as I still have a valid license.

Magic Quadrant for Endpoint Protection Platforms

Strengths
• The malware research team has a well-earned reputation for rapid and comprehensive malware detection, as well as small, frequent signature updates.
• Kaspersky has a relatively small disk and memory footprint for a comprehensive suite platform.
• Kaspersky offers advanced HIPS features, including an isolated virtual environment for behavior detection, as well as application and Windows registry integrity control.
• The company has a strong OEM business with EPP, e-mail and Secure Web Gateway vendors.
• For on-demand malware scanning, Kaspersky offers the Anti-Virus Second Opinion Solution, which can be used along with competitive EPP clients.
• The company also offers a new vulnerability scanner based on Secunia, which helps users identify vulnerable applications and find solutions.
• Kaspersky offers broad platform support, including Windows Server 2008, Citrix, Linux, Novell NetWare, Exchange, Notes, Windows Mobile and Symbian.

Cautions
• Kaspersky is undergoing significant growth in the enterprise market and is aggressively expanding into new geographies, and it must invest in support and enterprise-class features well ahead of demand.
• The latest v.8 products boast a number of new features, but have been delayed due to quality issues and are now targeted for a 3Q09 general release. Also, Kaspersky recently scrambled to fix a bug in the latest update of v.6.0, which caused some concerns about Kaspersky's code quality process.
• Kaspersky still needs to improve its manageability for large enterprises — for example, providing more task-based workflow, supporting multiple application development trees,
providing a unified view of endpoint security status, improving reporting functionality, increasing support for more-flexible group-level policies, and improving native client distribution capabilities. Some of these issues are expected to be addressed in the delayed v.8.
• The firewall offers no Wi-Fi-specific protection or policy support, and has limited VPN policy options. Kaspersky's location-based policy is limited to three manually selected zones.
• Device control capability isn't very granular, is limited to device groups and can only block or allow certain ports.
• Kaspersky doesn't offer any endpoint encryption capability or DLP. A Kaspersky sister company is developing a DLP and encryption solutions; however, integration and functionality road maps are still undefined.
• Native NAC capability is missing. • There is no Mac or SharePoint support.

i like Kaspersky in 2008,
i'm trying to like Kaspersky in 2009.

Ladies and gents,

Whilst I understand some of you have some genuine grievances, spamming this thread with how angry/upset/etc you are will not lead to the new versions being suddenly released, or the beta versions being made available for production use (which would be absolutely insane to allow)..... When new information becomes available about the status of the v8 business line, there will be an update made in this forum. Until that time, this thread is now closed as we are heading absolutely nowhere with the type of comments now being posted.

Thank you for your understanding.
