Windows servers & workstations have absolutely no problem updating from Administration Server

NetWare servers sometimes update Ok, but most of the times just fail with error

SPGSNET/SYS/KLAB/UPDATES/master.xml file has been updated
Kaspersky Updater (SPGSNET) - anti-virus database has not been updated error
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

or get to 100% & sits there for ie 12 hours (so I have to cancel it)

SYS:\KLAB/master.xml file has been updated
klabAntiVirus (SPGSNET).SPGS.UK - anti-virus database has been successfully updated 26September2008 Fri,06:04:48 OK
Updating of the anti-virus database has been aborted by user Kaspersky AdminKit Adminstrator stopped

and the new update never reflects anywhere (in Admin Kit, Console One, even its own server screen)

Anybody any ideas?

Thanks

In the properties of the Admin Kit - Update download task, did you select "All available updates"?

Yes, of course.
Strange as it works on some servers & does fail on others

We have always had some problems with Netware servers and updating. I don't know whether this is of any help but we had a group task for the Netware clients that ran the AV Database
Update with the 'Updates source' as the Admin Kit. This never really worked. We ended up creating a second group task that had it's Update source as the Internet and
populated the download locations with the relevant Kaspersky sites.
We set the schedule to run 4 times a day and this seems to work very well. We get the odd problem with a Netware server not updating or showing the latest antivirus database.
Then we just unload all the Kaspersky components and reload them which tends to resolve any version inconsistencies.

Like you, we never have any updating issues with our Windows servers or workstations.

There was a recent Maintenance Pack released for the Novell version, might help fix a few updater errors.

This is what I am running, have incident open with support for 3 weeks now (totally no solution at all, only more questions relied to Moscow)

So far the NetWare version is just a waste of money.....

What version of netware you using? We have 4 novell servers and after much tweaking I am able to get updates regularly. Also did you install the plug in on the Admin kit to administer the updates? I can't get an update from a shared folder I have to go to the KAV's servers to get the update. There not using any proxy server or ftp connection.

Had to give up on the AdminKit usage, as the agent was making my GroupWise server unusable (CPU constantly above 75%, hitting every few minutes full 100%)
Agent unloaded, server back to normal.

NW 6.5 SP7 with all post updates.
I have shared folder on Win server presented as http:// (still makes no difference, sometimes some servers update, most of the times none will, one pulls all the files to /updates folder but never moves it to /bases)
Total nightmare with no consistency.

In addition latest AdminKit 6.0.1710 displays NOTHING on the Applications tab (for the server that still had agent running)

Had no reply from Moscow and UK support can not do anything

Are you running GWAVA on your Groupwise server? If so you don't need to install the KAV AV on that your GWAVA\MTA scanner should already have it (it comes with the newer versions of GWAVA).

You have the latest updated for Netware servers from KAV?

Here is my problem I had. I couldn't ever manage the KAV plug in through console one. I had made threads about it and if you search by user you'll find it. It explains the steps that got it resolved. However, I had to use the plug-in through admin kit to even schedule update times.

I prefer (now) to use ConsoleOne. It actually allows proper input of ie. exception folders

I use Gwava 3.6 (and not planning to upgrade to latest). Yes it has KAV, but extra chargeable, why pay again if I already paid for the KAV for all my PCs

AdminKit NW plugin is buggy (to say the least). Try to add (or even edit existing) http:// update location. It will make it http:\\

There is new 5.7.4 NetWare version with corrected jar file that allows updates to be performed as one would expect out of the box.
In my case it was 3 months after deployment (better later than never, but....)

Where can I get this version? The newest version available at http://support.kaspersky.com/novell57?level=2 is 5.7.3.

Where can I get this new 5.7.4 version. Updating has never worked right for us on our Netware server since 5.6 up through 5.7.3. It's randomly failed and now on 5.7.3 it abends our servers the minute I start an update. Novell Netware 6.5sp7(post patches.) All 4 servers abend as soon as I start and update. Yes, I've set it up correctly, I've set it up so many times in ConsoleOne it's like second nature.

I can't update my signatures. Isn't there a manual way to update the signatures on a Netware server? Isn't there a zip file I can download, unload KLABAV, extract to a folder and reload KLABAV. Even if I need to extract specific files to specific directories, I don't care.

I'll manually update my servers if it'll be reliable. Better yet, I'll make my own script to update them correctly. It's not that hard to do if I can get the files and know the location they need to go.

Please anyone can you help with this? It's been months since I was able to get updates. I might as well unload my server based Kaspersky and just use a workstation to post scan the servers.

Thanks for the help.

Nyle - I have a Netware server at the moment that is failing to update correctly for no apparent reason. If you wish to update manually I have found that the best way is to unload klabav.nlm on your Netware server and ensure that all kaspersky modules are unloaded (klnagent.nlm being the exception)
Navigate to the \\sys\klab\bases folder on a Netware server that is up to date and copy \klab\bases\*.* files to the \\sys\klab\bases on the Netware server that isn't updating. On the destination server, I usually delete the root files in the bases folder first before copying over. It is a dirty way of doing it but I was never sure whether a corrupt .avc file was stopping subsequent updates.
Once the files have copied over load klabav and check the database date matches the latest version.

I use Admin Kit and Console One to manage updates in no particular order. 3 of our 6 Netware servers have happily updated from Admin Kit since the start. The other 3 netware servers frequently need manual intervention. If Admin Kit doesn't seem to work for you then I have found that creating an update task using the Kaspersky snap-in in Console One can resolve the update issue. Create the update task on one of the servers in ConsoleOne accepting all defaults and set a schedule. There is a field called 'List of Servers-Recipients'. In here I add the server you have just created the update task for plus you can add one other Netware server for it to update. It seems to only be able to accept 2 recipients. When I have added a non-updating Netware server in here, it seems to work.

I have only found these solutions through a process of trial and error so I hope this is of help to anyone using KAV for Netware.
