A user had this on there machine today. Is there a reason why KasperSky never picked it up?

Software Update: 9/17/2008 5am
Definitions Update: 9/17/2008 5am

I figured KasperSky should be able to detect this stuff running in the background since thats why we bought it.

Is there something I'm missing?

is the riskware category enabled in the settings? if not enable it.

I had the same problem in my company. This tool will clean it http://www.malwarebytes.org/mbam.php, and updated kaspersky will catch it next time. I do not remember what my setting for riskware category was before KAV was able to stop it.

P.S. MBAM only cleans it, but you need Kaspersky to stop it. And that machine had no antivirus/firewall software prior to this.

P.P.S. Either MBAM wasn't able to clean everything, or some other virus downloaded Antivirus 2009 again, but I needed few cleanups and reboots untill I was able to install and update KAV properly to stop it.

P.P.P.S. In my case I think that the name was Antivirus XP, but I belive it is "same shit, different name".

It is not enabled. Is this program just something stupid to try and get you to buy their product? And not actually malware?

I have since cleaned it, just wanted to make sure others don't get it. Of course the user will say, "I never downloaded it". "I don't know how it got on my machine."

it's distributed via trojan, but not everything is detected as malware, some just as riskware
