since version 2009 is scanning setup files etc. before they are executed, which sometimes takes minutes, it would be wise to show e.g. a popupwindow that says "scanning file, please wait". i figured out what was going while my pc stopped for that time. but i think any inexperienced user would have no idea. his pc just stopped. let's call the next pc-technician...

hello
there is, but sometimes it's not shown - see release notes, known issue.
the box looks like this:
spr
i installed kis many many times on different pcs, and i never saw this window once. maybe i am just unlucky

where can i find the release notes?
maybe there is a workaround?

it should be shown by default
spr
ok the issue seems to be narrowed down to very large files (larger than 1GB) in the release notes. but as is said, i don't see the window ever. and i haven't seen them on the 20 PCs i installed kis 2009 once.
so it seems to me that something is not right.

there is also one user that has never seen this window. so one can easily guess that there are many cases like this.

maybe it has something to do with the OS language? germany here.
i can't think of another reason right now that would explain this behaviour in my vicinity.

sorry for opening a new post, but i can't edit the previous anymore.

to be certain i updated my 357 build to 454. same result.
tested with nero trial setup (about 100mb) and xp service pack 3 installation setup (about 300mb).
no window.
kis is set to default settings.

Speaking as that "one other user", I'll verify that the "New Application Started" box has never appeared for an .exe of any size, 1GB or smaller.

Seems OS and region agnostic as I'm KIS 454 Vista x64, GB.

has there been any enlightenment? i still don't see that window on newly installed PC's.
Has this issue been forwarded to kaspersky?

What's up with the database update in KAV 2009? It appears when the database is set to Update Automatically, a restart of the computer is not required to apply the new databases. When a restart is required to ensure the new databases and application modules are activated, there is no notification of the need for a restart indicated on the "K" icon in the system tray. I have to open the window to discover that a restart is required. I don't turn my computer off on a regular basis, so it could be days before I would notice that I need to restart the computer to apply the updates. Please advise. Thanks!

hello
the restart is for network drivers, program modules or major engine updates only, databases get updated without restart. also, you don't need to restart your pc, signatures are updated and kaspersky will work with the old modules until the reboot.

there should be a notification, a small red cross next to the K icon in the system tray

Thanks! But unless I missed the small red cross, it didn't appear to be there. I'll look more closely next time. It's not a big deal, but I wasn't sure if it's a possible bug. If it doesn't appear, I'll just check the window more often. Thanks for the prompt response!!

I saw the red cross in a sudsequent update. However, the red cross is not very visable on the red portion of the K icon. IMO, it would be more visable over the arrow protion of the K icon.

I have too not noticed any such window while installing programs right from office 2003sp to win rar.

I will also open a support ticket
spr
well, on second thought, this missing window is not just an issue because you don't see the scan but also because you can't CANCEL the scan. take a slow pc and let it do the automatic scan of a fresh downloaded 1GB packed rar file. or is there no window for "downloaded scans"?

I got the following reply from the KS lab. Its confusing

2008.09.22, 11:20 - Mustansir:

Please note that kaspersky keeps checking and analyasing new application just add to trusted application

Best regards,

2008.09.21, 14:57 - Your Request:

Whenever a new program is installed as per release notes a box should pop up stating" please wait while new application is analysed". Still date i have not experienced such window. I have installed office 2003 sp3 (117MB) and other programs less than 100mb but no such message encountered.

Pls advise
spr
i think they misunderstood you. they think you mean the "trusted application" part, where you can say yes or no for a "potential risky program".
... i think

I agree with u . The ks guys just seem to dont understand anything. I have raised many queries and the the solution was not even once a bulls eye. Me too disappointed. My queries are answered by Mustansir.
