these are all features i'd REALLY like to see.
i've been a re-seller of KAV/KIS since v5, both to commercial SME and to home users. my requests here are more relevant to the home edition, which is the one i tend to install the most frequently.
i'm installing KIS onto new (and often infected) machines at the very minimum of several times a week. sometimes it's several times a day. i keep the latest kaspersky build on a memory stick, and so i can easily update this file when it's updated.
firstly, the default settings for me are never appropriate. now i appreciate you can't please all the people all the time, especially with security software, but the vast majority (in fact, i think every single one) of my end-users want a "set and forget" solution that just works. they don't want things popping up telling them what activity is taking place unless it's of some serious significance, many of my users are in the over-50 age bracket, and are actually scared by messages such as "application.exe placed into group : low restricted" and then don't want to touch their computer in case they break something. certainly, the vast majority of them are not particularly computer literate, that's why they're calling me in the first place.
there's already the choice between "basic" and "advanced" defaults, well i'd like to see "set-and-forget" settings too : ALL types of malware are detected by default, and all security measures are set to disinfect/delete without any interaction with the user, be it from scanning active files or from an on-demand full scan. the POP3 mail dispatcher is disabled (my users have enough trouble with their email clients as it is!), and only the following events warrant a notification :
"nasty thing found"
"don't worry we killed it"
"you NEED to update/restart"
"kaspersky is broken"
anything beyond that should happen silently.
so yeh, the option "set-and-forget : maximum protection with minimal interaction. most events take place silently" during install would make my life somewhat simpler.
also :
in addition to this, i'd like a way of saving the settings to a config file. then at the very least, i can keep that file on my memory stick and import the settings during installation. not as seamless as choosing "set-and-forget" but it's equally effective (i'm not likely to forget to change one setting) and it means if i decide to tweak my own defaults, i can save a new file and work from that one.
also :
the other really boring part of these installs is downloading a ~6mb update. i've got the latest updates on my own office PC, so i'd like a way to include the update bases from my own machine into a file or folder on my memory stick, and for KIS to import those during installation. this would not only save a lot of time, it would also solve problems where infections are making internet access difficult (yes i know you can't activate the trial edition without a connection, but when a million trojans have the bandwidth utterly maxed out, activating is one thing, downloading 6mb of info at 200 bytes/sec is something quite different)
just my thoughts from someone out in the field who's put about 150 copies of KIS 7 and 8 out there so far this year !
