Full Version: KAV 6 - Vista Machine Unusable When Enabled?

As subject I'm testing KAV 6 (latest hotfix) on a few machines with a view to to a full deployment.

I have one Vista SP1 machine. To be fair it's full of various bits of accumulated software, however with Trend OfficeScan installed it behaves perfectly.

With Kaspersky installed (naturally we fully remove Trend first) it runs like an absolute dog.

By this I don't mean it generally slows down, I mean you try and open/use applications and just Windows in general and it is non-responsive for long periods of time and all of a sudden the "accumulation" of things you've tried to click happens all at once.

I've run getsysinfo, can't post the results as there is company specific data in them, but there was nothing highlighted as wrong.

Any ideas/clues where to begin please as formatting it isn't ideal.

Thanks in advance.

For deployment you say...so this is a office environment? If yes then hopefullyb you're using the workstation products?

Hi Don,

Yes we are. I've posted in this forum simply because I believed the KAV 6 for Workstations is also available for home use so I'd hoped that as the problem doesn't appear related to the business element of the product (like central management) that I may snag a few more suggestions than if I posted in the business section.

Feel free to move if you feel it would be more appropriate there.

We have not get any dramatically slowdown of the OS while testing our product on vista SP1
Can you provide GetSysinfo report from one or two of problem workstations?
Performance slow down allways after KAV for WKS installed or only some times while some scan task running? for example?

what kind of process and how much memory installed on those machines?

Thank you for the reply.

No it's odd as my machine and several others are running Vista with SP1 and it's running just fine.

This machine has 4gb of RAM and the slowdown is such that you can boot up, logon, start say Internet Explorer or Firefox and sit back and wait whilst the machine seems to do nothing for a minute or so, during which task manager shows no activity but the machine is totally non-responsive, then all of a sudden there is a "flurry" of activity whilst all the clicks/application activity catches up.

Pause KAV and things behave. Resume KAV they misbehave.

I can send you getsysinfo output but I can't post the link to the analysis here as it has company specific info in it that I'm not comfortable linking to in public - can you let me know details (or I can raise a ticket via Kaspersky, something I admit I've not yet done so there's no criticism of Kaspersky support!).

I have been having this exact same behavior for about 4-5 days, on two different systems, both running Vista SP1.

Could it be related to the bad definitions that were sent out untested last Thursday? It seems to all have started around that time.

Thanks.
