I'm testing KAV for Windows Servers and KAV for Windows Workstations for deployment in a customer's network.

I have the following setup:

File/domain Server:
Pentium III 1 GHz
512 MB RAM
40 GB system drive
60 GB data drive
Microsoft Windows Server 2003 Standard SP2
Kaspersky for Windows File Servers 6.0.3.837
Kaspersky Administration Kit 6.0.1591
Kaspersky Network Agent 6.0.1591
Active Dirctory
DNS and DHCP
Test domain

Workstations:
2 Pentium III 1 GHz Workstations
512 MB RAM
Windows XP SP3
Kaspersky Network Agent 6.0.1591
Kaspersky for Windows Workstations 6.0.3.837
Basic office applications
Both joined to test domain

I set up an On-Demand task to fully scan the workstations and server every Sunday at 11 pm. On Monday morning, the workstations had finished scanning without problems. But, the file server task still showed as scanning and would not complete for 12 more hours (after running approximately 9 hours already). The On-Demand server scan was using approximately 80% CPU. This is unacceptable in the customer's environment because network response (internet access, file access, etc.) substantially slows during an On Demand virus scan of the server.

I realize the test environment is built with low-powered, spare PCs. However, an on-demand scan of a low-end file server should not take 21 or more hours.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I think there is no issue.

What kind of files stored on your server?
Is it most of them archive and installation files?

There is a mixture of office files, executables, some archives. Why would a 21-hour full scan not be an issue?

I think something is wrong. Too long for scan whole disk 100G to run !
Please check "All network drives" under "Scan My Computer" properties.

Hi,

We are having the same issue on scanning its taking too long to full scan 2 80gig HDD (scan my computer: system memory, startup objects, system backup storage, all hard drives). 5 hours and its only 33%. hmmm... blink.gif

if you want to fast FULL scan of yours 100 Gb installations and other packed staff you can:
1. set "security level" for that scan task to "Low". and it will be much faster.
2. disable option "[customize...] \ Additional\ Concede resources to other applications" and it faster as well, but you will post issue what full scan slowdown your server.

But I recommend you simply enable option "[customize...] \ General \ Scan only new and changed files" in scan settings. First 2 or 3 scans will take long time, but next scan will much faster.

P.S. I hope what all your 100Gb disk it is NTFS type partitions otherwise it will be not so efficiently as it can be

160 Gb of data and how much time it must take you think?
Can you scan it faster by your self?
qtester
Without any exact Computer configurations and scan time compare for different products it is nothing as flood only.
