Based on current KIS interface, left panel was taken out of an old KIS 8 development build, i wished they retained that style instead of the current one sad.gif

SYSTEM TRAY MENU:

yeah i know many wont like this, but ill still add wink.gif

These GUI screenshots do look impressive, and you've obviously spent some time working on them. My only concern at the moment is if they will increase memory usage of the program by having the interfaces "glamourised" somewhat.

Skins are a nice touch as long as they don't overcrowd the ability to use the program. Looking "pretty" isn't always needed as long as the product works.
Netherlands
Someone has to teach you how to make skins bravo.gif
zammy
This looks really good now. Yea If this there is way to implement these while keeping min memory usage, this will be awesome.
Lucian Bara
IMO, no thanks, the simple parts look better, the eye candy will not help and it will only make the interface harder to understand. also the web av page has to be small so it gets transfered into a buffer, so pictures won't help there.
shah jahan
Thanks for the reply everyone smile.gif

- SEND 2 LAB Concept!

-- SENDING FILES/LINKS TO VIRUS LAB FROM WITHIN THE INERFACE:
Vista/Windows Classic Themes

In relation to proposed THREAT SCANNER Interface...

Email of person for getting feedback from KL if necessary
Details Box for user to post links if there is no attachment...
Attachment of ZIP files, with ability to remove attached files...

shah jahan
On Vista and Windows Classic Interface - seen with the THREAT SCANNER INTERFACE
- THREAT SCANNER Interface has the Send To Lab Link!

shah jahan
MESSAGE PROGRESS WINDOW:

On Progress and Complete Images
For Vista and Windows Classic!!

shah jahan
Full Interface:

-- Threat Scanner > Upload Files To Lab > Progress Window
-- Vista and Windows Classic

-- While the progress window is active, the 'Send to Virus Lab INPUT Window will be locked and will stay behind the progress window. Only after the process finishes and user clicks CLOSE, all windows related to 'Send To Virus Lab' will all close - and return back to the main interface of Kaspersky!

-- CUSTOM SCAN CONCEPT # 2

-- This is the 2nd concept for custom (On-Demand) Scans...
-- The scanning window is made smaller compared to default one in 2009 and also smaller than the previous concept. Also made it look simpler but removing icons etc.
-- By default a 'Minimzed' Look will be seen by user. IF details are needed, User can click on the 'Details' button.
-- New window for details is Default in version 2009, ive removed that. Instead the current scanning window itself will frop down and extend revealing scan details! Click on 'Details' Again and the window will minimize back!
-- Also file being actively scanned is moved into detail area in a small box (with a little green tint to it)
-- Option to auto fix can be clicked if user is running the scan or a large area
-- If virus is found and removed OR if user runs a scan on a suspicious file but no result, then he/she can run a 2nd scan automatically on the same files BUT with all settings maxed out (deep heuristics enabled temporarily).
-- Logs can be saved to file directly from here.

Default in version 2009:

Windows Classic Look:

Windows Vista Look:

Look for 'Completed' Scan will come next smile.gif
Any Comments = Welcome!

I like them, but the main windows all look too much, too big, too bold. I'd prefer it if it was smaller, more compact and more plain.
I'd also prefer Web-AV to stay as is at the moment.
JCipriani
This is really nice work but the windows are far too busy. Personally, I prefer a simple, modern look that presents information clearly and concisely, without too much visual distraction like unnecessary horizontal lines and serifs on fonts, in compact windows consistent with the style of other applications running on the system.

Too much form starts to take away from function. When an alert pops up, for example, I am not going to look at it and admire the layout details -- I am going to glance at it and attempt to get the information it is presenting to me as efficiently as possible, so visual distractions are a minus even if they are really great looking.

Example: Clutter = RealPlayer. Simplicity = Classic Windows Media Player (before the skinnable version).

Thank you for the replies.
I will attempt simpler look for Concept # 2 for interface

regarding the sending to the lab option, the gui is and will never be a problem, someone has to write up a backbone (in the application and on servers - classification of recieved files, auto testing for corruption and so on) that's the problem
mackintire
I love his suggested changes for Alerts and the Addition of Icons to the taskbar menu.

To me and my users, being able to find what you are looking for and being clearly able to understand the presentation of Information is a benefit.

Take note of what is in BOLD font and what is in large print on the example alert. My co-workers agree his is much easier to understand and the user would be more likely to look at the message.

Those two changes are almost 100% positive and would be worth the small increase in memory.

I also agree that the new proposed UI is too busy and flashy. Its hard to read quickly and would not add to the end users experiance.

The onscreen scanner example and such type menus may be a viable suggestion for Kaspersky Internet Securities 2011. This is assuming everyone has 4+ GB of RAM and is running VISTA or Windows 7. I expect Vector graphics and such to be the de facto standard by that time.
shah jahan
Thank you for the comments Lucian and mackintire... some really interesting comments here smile.gif
