We recently purchased Kaspersky AV for workstations (kav6.0.3.837_winwksen.exe) and Ive got one machine out of the 4 or 5 Ive installed it on (a windows 2000 Pro SP4 box with all current MS patches) that the install seems to run fine but when the system reboots at the end and comes back up I cant interact with the GUI at all. I have the icon in the system tray and I can double click it to bring the gui up but once its up it doesnt acknowledge any more mouse clicks. Im also unable to close the window or shut it down because of this. If I right click on its panel in the taskbar it only gives me two options, minimize and close, but it wont close no matter what you do. I was able to start a full system scan from the start menu but after it was done running I had to reboot the machine as it still wouldnt let me close the window or acknowledge that Im pressing any buttons at all.
I uninstalled from the Control Panel and re installed but got the exact same results??
Please advise.

Thanks,

Greg McKean

Update, it's spread to a server and the admin kit installed on it. I can open them, I just can't interact with them after that. All other windows work fine.??

Most remote control programs have this problem when using Kaspersky. Remote deskop is fine with it.

It sounds like the Self defense\ external application control settings under Service on your policy might be causing the issue.

I tend to switch them off so we can use Dameware on workstations and still interact with KAV.

However there is probably a smarter way to get KAV to trust your remote control tool - if that is what the problem is for you.

You can add you remote administration tool in to "Trusted Zone \ Trusted Application" with enabled flag: "Do not restrict application activity", but it will work only with KAV for WKS 6.0.3.837 with "hotfix" "c" installed.
On KAV for FS 6.0.3.xxx it will not work.

The remote control issue is a seperate thing, I was sitting at the pc for the first hour or two and it wouldn't acknowledge I was clicking on anything. As it turns out I came in the next morning, after an update was downloaded at 3am, and everything worked correctly again. IMHO I'd say it was a patch that initially caused the issue as I could use the proggy before it updated itself, and then the next morning after another patch came out I could use it again.

thanks,

Greg
