Full Version: OMG!!! Unintentional Data Loss!

I Spent 15 minutes typing stuff for a new thread to post here...

and suddenly KIS shutddown the system! dash1.gifdash1.gifdash1.gif

No, its not a bug..! And KIS hasnt done anything wrong!

Then what was it?

Well... A Full Scan was ON, and I instructed KIS to Shutdown the System after the Scan! b_grins.png

I usually leave a scan when im just leavin home and so KIS can perform a full scan and close the system once thats done..
Now, for some reason during the scan was in progress, i decided to stay back home and i was actually posting something here with details...
What happened was... KIS silently completed the scan and everything that was typed was lost!

Now, my suggestion is... KIS should pop up a message saying... "system will restart in 10 mins as the requested scan is about to end". And this message should be on top on any application window that is open at the time...
Is the pop up is left unanswered, then it is assumed that user is not at the desk and KIS shall go ahead with the shutdown... however if the user is on the PC... then he/she might remember to cancel the shutdown request inorder to prevent accidental/unintentional data loss
User can have an option in the pop up to stop the shutdown

To experience how helpful this small suggestion could be... try making a scan and then open some document and type un-needed info for test.. and leave KIS to shutdown... this can be a disaster for many people in real life situation... (thank God i was only typing a thread when this happened- phew!)

Im sure this could save a lot of frustration in case some one else also gets into my situation, but by KIS reminding the user, similar or a more serious situation can be avoided!

Just wanted to add...

Here is just a sample... It could be a bigger one too... The notification may pop when the scan reaches 75% etc...
This will make sure that if the user is still working on something... the data will not be accidentally lost due to a system shutdown by KIS/KAV...

By default KIS/KAV would prevent notifications in 'full screen' mode, however this notification should be allowed to appear even in 'full screen' mode rolleyes.gif

Here is a 2nd choice for the "Shutdown Warning"

++ Please Note that this is not mainly for GUI enhancement, it is mainly for preventing accidental loss of data.
As mentioned above, If user instructs KIS/KAV to shutdown automatically at the end of a scan but for some reason he/she is still working on the PC at the time of scan completion!!!

In another thread, I had proposed 'Mini Notifications' for KIS/KAV 2009... this one is an extension to it... so basically the 'Mini Notifications' and the 'Shutdown Warning' can appear together...!

GUI Proposals are below depending on scenarios...

1- Windows Classic Theme / Vista Theme / Vista Theme + Browser Open
2- Scan Progress & Notification Of Completed Scan (If Auto-Shutdown is NOT Chosen)
3- Scan Progress, Notification, & Shutdown Warning (If Auto-Shutdown is Chosen)

- Scan progress bar can be closed, Scan completion will only pop when scan is completed and will appear even if the scan progress was closed by user.

>> GUI: Ongoing Scan (Mini Notification Thread - CLICK HERE)

>> GUI: Ongoing Scan (Above 75%, so Shutdown Warning appears)
Clicking the 'X' will only close the scan progress bar, not the shutdown warning.

>> GUI: Progress Bar Closed (Above 75%, so Shutdown Warning appears)
If progress bar is closed or disabled... Shutdown Warning will appear by itself once scan reaches 75%+

This sounds like a great idea to me, this warning system if implemented would be very helpful to all of us who prefer to have our scans done when we are away. bravo.gif

Wow, this is really a great idea! I hope this or some kind of it will be implemented in later builds.
