There is similar topic already: http://forum.kaspersky.com/index.php?showt...ost&p=54833 but I cannot reply there...

So, in this post: http://forum.kaspersky.com/index.php?showt...ost&p=62627 , Micha said:

As far as I know, all our products DO work even after the license expired, just the updater gets blocked.

That is not quite true - a few weeks ago my licence for early KIS 7 expired and KIS simply went gray - all services stopped. That PC were used not very often, so I did not remember to renew the licence at the proper time, but I did it at last effectively, and this not the topic, of course smile.gif

I would agree with Micha, if KIS would work in such a manner, as he stated. I understand, that when licence is not valid it is not possible to upgrade definitions, but I rather would expect KIS to work nevertheless. Now it seems that we buy one or two year licence for using the program, and not only for the right to upgrade our AV/internet protection only.

What do you think?

Actually stuff has changed now, kis 8 and even kis 7 through the pdm can offer an adequate level of protection for advanced users throguh hips, even without updating. so some users could use kis indefenetly after the license expires

What's the exact suggestion?

...And the license agreement does state that the license/key you purchase gives you the right to use the software for the period of the license, not after.

Actually there is no such statement in the EULA file, according to what I can see in "licence.txt", KIS 7.0.1.325 c.d, polish version.

When we buy a program we can use it as long, as we wish. During a year after purchase we are entitled to get updates/upgrades of tha program, if any are available. After the year we can use the program, bur we cannot obtain any new version, unless we buy for example maintenace or upgrade. It is OK. And I would expect similar terms of using KIS/KAV. Although I do not buy the next year upgrade right - i.e. the right to get new version of KAV/KIS and/or update of AV definitions during next year or two - I should have the possibility to use KIS in the state "as of the end of current licence period".

I did not meet the information that after a year after purchase KIS would deactivate. I think it is obvoius to all users that after a licence exipres one cannot download new definitions, but not that one cannot use KIS/KAV at all.

I'd like not to call any new software-licence war smile.gif but as I can see my expectations are quite different comparing to other opinion. I am a long term KIS user at home and at work (if I can call "3 years" as a "long term" of course smile.gif ) and I'm not going to change this! I'm only curious what do other people think on that topic - should the use of KIS be possible after the licence expired or not?

Best regards :-)

i actually checked it. kaspersky IS 7.0.1.325 remains running, with update disabled after the license is expired. the only time it deactivates is if you use a beta key - so a beta product or a trial key. for commercial keys it will look like this:
the only time i imagine protection would be disabled is if someone tries to play around with the malware database (to get the database up todate by manually placing the bases file in the bases folder)

OK, thanks Lucian, it's great that you tested this :-)

I did not test it, I only remember gray "K" logo in the task bar and my urgent contact to Kaspersky.pl to renew the licence (I did not use beta but commercial key, it was several weeks ago, though it's possible I was wrong or I recall things wrong...).

Fortunately all is clear now :-)

I was referring to this statement in the EULA:
