Hi,

I have downloaded the KMS 7.0 Trial Version to my Symbian-based Nokia E61 Smartphone. Yesterday, I tried out the "SMS Clean" function. It worked with the password only containing numbers - but only partly, which is why I´m here.
- The contact list was gone
- The inboxes (SMS and emails) were gone
- The settings for POP3 access to my mailboxes were gone

- The calendar had not been deleted
- Everything on the memory card was untouched.

There is a setting in the program to remove personal files which I had set to on actually. The stuff on the memory card was what I was most eager to see gone in case the phone was lost or stolen, so I am a little disappointed.
Can you help me there? Is it something about the settings? Or does this not work when you have set up a password for the memory card? Shouldn´t make a difference, actually, the password is just for the case that the memory card is taken out of the phone, you never have to enter it?

Thank you very much!

are your sms files on your main machine or on your storage card?

They are on the phone. I have only files like some documents, some Excel sheets and all my installed programs on the storage card.

That's probably the reason why everything on the memory card was untouched

In how far? Are the settings interdependent? And how do I get my calendar to also be deleted - that´s not mission-critical, but it would be nice to have the phone "scrubbed clean" like the day I got it in case it is stolen.

aha that's what you are looking for.
Is there something in here? http://www.kaspersky.com/home_user_docs?downlink=206909430

Symbianic
I´ll look into it. But actually, I did that before coming to this forum, so I don´t really think I´ll find anything there.
Anyway, I´ll try moving my calendar and inbox to the card as well, maybe it will work then.

what does it have to do with deleting the calendar blink.gif
Symbianic
Hi,

deleting the calendar would probably be a feature request - I don´t think the tool offers that functionality yet.
Sjoeii
I guess you want to have the opportunity to do it when it is stolen?

Ah, okay.

I´ve read the manual closely once more and it seems this paragraph holds the key to why it works the way it does:

The Remove personal files item ensures deletion of personal data (data from folder !:\Data\). By default deletion of personal files is not provided. If you wish to be able to delete your personal data in case your smartphone is stolen or lost, select this item and assign value Yes to it. Press the OK button to save the changes you have made.

Can you tell me where the folder !:\Data\ is? On the phone itself, I guess. Is there any way then that I can set my memory card to also be deleted?
Thanks a lot!

Hi, Symbianic,
1. KMS does not delete the calendar entries, but i agree with you, it is a good suggestion and i'm sure we will implement it in KMS 8.0
2. You could use sms-block function to block access to your personal data on the memory card. Sms-block will set a password on your memory card so a thief will not be able to access your files on the memory card

Hi Viktor,

well, the SMS-Block of course blocks access to the memory card.
My thought was that in case my phone is lost or stolen, I´d rather have the data gone for good than encrypted.
Do you know what type of encryption the program uses?
Thanks!

Hi again,

once we´re at this:
Could you explain to me what is the actual point of the third Anti-Theft feature, "SIM Watch"? It blocks the phone when the SIM is removed, okay, that´s handy because in that case I can´t send the Blocking SMS anymore. And it tells me the phone number of the newly inserted SIM - what good is that? It would enable me to send the Blocking SMS to that one, but that would make the first feature superfluous. And there isn´t a place where I can go and say that a guy with this and that number stole my phone and expect anything to come of it...
Thanks a lot!

Its not necessary that a user would use all 3 feature at once...
You cant guarantee the situation in which you loose your phone...

Sim Watch: You have a choice to enter 2 'Partner' numbers...
In case SIM BLOCK wasnt active, and SIM WATCH was active... In that case, when the original SIM is replaced... Your two 'Partner' Numbers receive a SMS from the 'New' Sim... That would reveal the phone number of the person who has your phone.

To get your phone back or to get the co-operation of law enforcement is your headache smile.gif

Sim Block is the feature which locks your phone when the original SIM is replaced.

The best combination in my opinion is SIM CLEAN and SIM WATCH... clean it.. then get the number of the person using it... (and maybe hit him real hard where it hurts the most) tongue.gif

edit. either get number 1st then clean and block...
or clean, then get the number... etc etc etc it can work in combination... now im gettin confused tongue.gif

I wonder, how would I do that? Anyway, I´m not the type of guy to do that - it wouldn´t give me any advantage, would it? If somebody has stolen my phone, what I would want is to get it back - if that´s not possible, then I´d like to just ensure that he won´t get any of my sensitive data so that what he gets is just a phone.

Anyway, if the SMS Clean does not delete the memory card, that is a serious drawback of the whole thing in my opinion - many users´ personal (and sensitive) files probably don´t fit on the phone memory so they have to use a memory card.

Post this in the feature request thread also... since thats a permanent request thread...
The product is always under development... any feature thats critical to customers/potential customers shall always have priority...
KMS still offers you good value smile.gif
Symbianic
Hi,

I wasn´t disputing that KM is good value, it is - but well - "good" is the enemy of "better" as they say. I will post it in the feature request thread.

Hi, Symbianic,
we don't encrypt any data, we set a password to the memory card, so the only way to access it is to enter the password.

Hi,

I have entered my two feature request at the end of the corresponding thread. Is there any way now I can monitor if and when those changes are going to be implemented?
Best regards,

Symbianic
