Ubuntu is getting more and more popular as
Wine is finished. The number of users is growing everyday. Bill Gates left a Microsoft with problems. The sale of XP is going to stop and more and more users have to deal with Vista, and will probably migrate to Linux because of bugs and crashes. Why not make Kaspersky 9.0 support Linux? I think this is a great idea and will increase Kaspersky's popularity!

Kaspersky does support linux...KAV for linux workstations

It can probably be ported if there is demand to a home user version.

"The number of viruses specifically written for Linux has been on the increase in recent years and more than doubled during 2005 from 422 to 863."

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Linux_malwareAs far as I know, that's a bigger number than the number of viruses for Mac OS X, and Kaspersky is developing a Mac version at the moment (currently in alpha).
How do you explain that?

Stalker72
Its an alpha version... Kaspersky has release products that work on linux. The market for home users with linux at the moment is not large at all... if there is demand, then a solution will be created.
Considering there isn't much "demand", it'd seem nice of KL to just write up a quick AV scanning engine (nothing crazy like KIS 8) and release it for free as a single user license only thing. Perhaps "On-Demand" only for free with added real-time available for a small cost. I know I'm being naive about "quick" but you get the idea. On the bright side, it'd be great PR showcasing how much KL cares about security for even the little guy over nickels and dimes.
Since most Linux users are fairly clever as it is, On-Demand only would really be the only needed thing since a user would already have the common sense to not directly open suspicious files. Hmmm....perhaps weekly updates only for free with daily being available for a small cost (like a Plus version).

what do you mean by creating a scanning engine for linux? it exists indeed:
there is a complete corporate suite of linux av-applications by kaspersky (filesystem scanner and kernel monitor for workstations and servers, mail checker, web-traffic checker, samba checker), it works well on intel tuxes and bsd systems for years...
Sorry for not being clear. I meant a quick little scanner (free preferable) for home (single license)users. Kind of like what ZoneAlarm has going on with their "free" firewall...except for an anti-virus.
