Hello all,

We installed Kaspersky 6.0 MP3 for Windows servers on 4 of my servers about 3 weeks ago. Since then I cannot get a backup to run unless I pause Kaspersky scanning. This is fine, and I have been doing that at night, but it is getting a little old being up at 1 and 2AM to turn the scanning back on after the backups have completed.

I have added the Backup Exec executibles to the trusted zone, and had no luck, I have tried using the "Pause Scanning" on application startup by including beserver.exe (the Backup Exec executible) and I have also added a schedule to "Pause Scanning" during my backup window. All have been unsuccessful. Yet, when I manually go in and Pause the scanning and kick off my backup I am successful every time.

What happens in Backup Exec, is that I backup to disk on my SAN, it will create one backup file (I use 10GB blocks for backup files), but it cannot create a second backup file once the first one is "full". The error message I get from Backup Exec couldn't be more cryptic, "Unknown error has occurred". I have opened a call with Symantec/Veritas/Backup Exec and they have exhausted all ideas on how to fix the problem and basically told me that it is not their software, something else must be the problem.

If someone could help me I would appreciate it.

Hi!
Did you check the eventlog (system & application) and can you see there strange entries from backupexec or anything else?

...otherwise you can try to STOP Kaspersky when starting the backup and startup again ehrn finishing it. Use the feature from
backupexec to start a batchfile and use: avp.com stop rtp /password=<password> to restart just use avp.com resume

Don't forget to use the full-path to avp.com and set a password for the file-server because without it will not work. If disabling
the RTP (Real-Time-Protection) does not help just use avp.com exit to shut the KAV down.

Hope this helps.

Hi,

I know this is old thread but i do have same problem. On most server I've put BackupEhing in the event xec to the trusetd application but I have few severs that still failing with "Unknown error". Nothing in the event log. The solution bu defect its not really a solution for me as I dont want to leave my server without protection for several hours.

Thanks

We use BackupExec, and haven't had any compatibility issues w/ Kaspersky. Perhaps it's actually and issue with BackupExec. Try calling Symantec support.
