Full Version: Same license for servers and workstations?

I installed Business Space Security with a trial license on a 10 PC, 4 server network. I purchased a license for 15 workstations/servers and applied it, but it doesn't seem to be working on the 3 non-admin console servers. It applied to the clients OK. What do I need to do to get the license applied to the servers?

Thanks.

Hi Keith,

please read http://forum.kaspersky.com/index.php?showtopic=57306.

Helmut,

I read through the other post but it doesn't answer my question. I received only one *.key license file. This file appears to work for 1 server (where the admin kit is installed) and my workstations. It doesn't work for the other 3 servers that are still using the trial license. I thought a license for 15 "Workstations/File Servers" would work for any mix of servers and workstations up to 15. Is that not correct? What do I need to do to get my other 3 servers licensed?

Thanks.

Hi there!
as posted by Helmut, Business Space packages come with 2 keys: the first one is only related to KAV for File Server version 5, while the second one supports KAV for Workstation 5/6 and KAV for File Server 6.
First, if you got only one key, you should ask to your reseller for the second one.
Second, supposing that those "failing" servers do not host KAV for Server version 5, which is the exact error you're facing with when trying to register the received key file?
Are you trying to remotely deploy that license via KAK or have you tried locally as well? in both cases do you have the same error?
thx

Thanks for the reply mastropizza. I only received 1 key file, for KAV 6 for workstations and servers. I don't know why I'd need a key for KAV 5 when I'm installing KAV 6 on all the devices. Anyway, the global task I created to install the new license key worked on the workstations - the status of the task is 'Completed'. It didn't work for the non-admin kit servers. The status of the task was 'Created'. I installed the keys from the client end successfully. Thanks again for the help.

hi,
well i didn't know in advance which license key you got so i suggested to you to retrieve both files...smile.gif
Nevertheless, you're working with the right file BUT you have to create 2 separate license installation tasks: one for Workstation 6, the other one for File Server 6...i understood that you're working with ony one....pls, correct me if i'm wrong

Why would I need a separate task for workstations and servers? I only have one key, and it installed successfully on both workstations and servers - although I had to install the servers individually from the KAV client side.

the fact that you successfully installed that key on the servers side does not matter: when you create that global task you firstly SHOULD specify which application you want to work with...then you can choose which kind of task you need for (scan, license, etc.)...therefore, IMHO, you should create two separate key installation task...despite to the fact that you have the same key.

Thanks, I've got it now. When I created the task originally I selected the KAV workstation application to perform the task. That's why it didn't install on the servers. So even though it's the same key, I needed 2 separate tasks to install it.

Thanks mastropizza.

i believe that if i purchase business space security with 10 license for workstation i get 1 license server (10 percent).

just a suggestion: it would be great if Kaspersky would generate one common key for different kind open space security.

I purchased KAV Business Space Security with 80 wks as well. But I received 2 keys.
8 for file server & 80 for workstation. I did try to use one for wks but it shown error.
Just wonder how Keith make it?
Helmut
You need the key for 8 servers only if you use server version 5.x.

The key for 80 clients is for workstation version 5.x and 6.x and only for server 6.x.

XXXXXXXX.key 8 SVR KAV for FileServer (V5.0)
XXXXXXXX.key 80 Node KAV for Workstation (V5.0/6.0) + FileServer (V6.0)
