Full Version: Limit resource usage?

I was wondering if it is possible to limit the CPU time that Kaspersky uses when doing a scan? We recently deployed KAV across our network and now our users are commenting that when a scan is taking place the computer is unusable.

Is there a setting in KAV / Windows that will allow us to set it so that it will only use available CPU cycles? Basically, any other process should have priority over this one.

Hello,

You can set your scan task to concede resources to other applications (properties of the task, Additional tab) then users will not be annoyed by the Anti-Virus.

Also I advise you to add professional applications in the trusted applications lists and to excluse folders which contains "big files" such as archives, databases from scan, in order to improve the global consumption of KAV.

Hi there,

I've been reading through the posts on the cpu/memory utilization with Kaspersky when it runs scans.....I've done what was listed: check the box to concede to applications, trusted applications etc.....While Task Manager doesn't show a great deal of cpu/memory utilization while running the scan (i'm testing this on my machine), there is noticeable performance degradation on my system.

Any ideas where I can look to next? We are running Kasperky version 6.0.1710 on a server pushing out updates to clients in our domain...

Thanks....

Hi,

The best schedule for the scan task is when you're not using your computer (e.g. at midday or during the night). If your computer is turned off during the night, then Administration Kit allow you to wake up the remote computer with the WOL feature few minutes before the scan start, and to shut it down once the scan is finished.

FYI, a new feature has been implemented in the upcoming version of KAV 6 for Workstations which allows you to pause scheduled scan when screensaver is inactive or computer is unlocked. This product is actually under testing: http://www.kaspersky.com/public_test

I think it's less a problem of cpu and ram usage than the harddrive performance. There is nearly a permanent access on files during scan, so a slow hdd or a fragmented disk could decrease performance, too.
