I am struggling through the installation of centrally administered AV clients on 15 machines, switching from AVG. I am finding the Kaspersky installation process needlessly complex: with AVG I created a couple of files with the installation path that I carried from machine to machine on a USB thumb drive. I double clicked and was done. Why isn't the process of Kaspersky as simple as that?

Hello,
maybe because Kaspersky AK is a more complex and flexible management system! Anyway, i think you firstly may find help by reading the quick guide you can find on the web....don't be scared by admin guide!

Also, the AK is meant to scale to hundreds or thousands of machines, but it requires adequate planning and training/research. Take your time, do it right.
As someone new to Kaspersky I have to second the opinion - this is clearly a very good management interface clouded by complexity, poor documentation and a few refresh-type quirks.
I've just spent an entire week fussing about with a 5-office setup for about 100 users, tearing out Symantec and installing Kaspersky. Although I have something setup that seems to now be working, it is >still< unclear to me how the basic hierarchy should be setup in the admin kit - the online chat guy gave me instructions that were very clear and turned out to be entirely wrong, so I'm not sure Kaspersky's support really knows either. And I am still trying to figure out how to integrate laptop groups in properly.
What would help immensely is a simple setup tutorial guide. Say, four offices, two with servers, two without, some roaming laptops, etc. Just go through a basic setup step-by-step for a reasonable architecture with a few simple policy settings. Most people, given this, will be able to scale it up or down or out as they need once the working outline is clear.
And I guarantee, if you do a walkthrough on this setup guide carefully, you also will discover the various refresh quirks in the admin kit that require disconnect-reconnect, explicit refresh or synchronize to see. Fix them or at least point them out in the documentation to save the rest of us hours of fiddling around.
