Full Version: offline updates via USB stick

At the office, we have three systems which run a special software for printing on a digital pressing system. These three computers are connected together via ethernet but are not connected to the internet or any other network.

Recently, i found out that whenever someone puts a USB stick on one of those computers, the USB stick will then carry a virus, apparently that system is infected by a virus that spreads itself by copying an autorun.exe/inf in any USB storage device that connects to it. Because people bring digital images (for printing) in USB sticks and CD/DVD disks, someone infected it with the virus.

So i installed KAV7 on the infected machine and it found nothing, probably because the default virus signatures are too old (9 months old?).

My question is: How do i update the signatures via a USB stick?

Thank you.

Hi,

read this FAQ.

I've already been there, that FAQ explains how to have one computer connected to the internet that shares the updates to other systems within the network.

As i explained above, our three computers are not connected to other networks or the internet, the only way is to move files around with a USB stick.

You need one computer with internet access for download. Follow the FAQ and copy the folder to your stick.

Configure the another client to update from the local folder (USB-Stick).

Wouldn't that require 2 licenses? one on the printing system and one on a computer with internet access?

Not to mention we'd need a Linux version of KAV since the desktops use Fedora 7 Linux. The three systems with windoze are required to run windoze because of the specialized software for the printing press sad.gif

Hi,

You can Download Updates from the internet (in zip archives), apparently your computers dont have internet, so go to your nearest computer shop with internet connection.

Antivirus database updates
In this section you can manually download the latest ANTI-VIRUS DATABASE for your antivirus software and find out about the different antivirus updates currently available. You can also read about the different methods of updating antivirus databases - both for individual PCs and for centralized updates across networks.
