Full Version: Disabling Scan My Computer task via Policy

Alright, I'm getting a little annoyed here. mad.gif

How does one get rid of the stupid Scan My Computer local task via a policy?

I would have thought the Predefined Tasks tab would be what I'm looking for, but unchecking the 'Predefined on-demand scan tasks' on the Groups policy level and locking the page doesn't get rid of it. Very annoying having this task causing a scan every week.

Hi Steve!

In folder Groups you can find folder Tasks.

Create a task ON Demand Scan.

Here you can make all options for PCs in this group.

Do not forget to lock up settings.

Hi Ivan, you were working late! smile.gif

Okay, I don't understand how creating a On-Demand scan task in the Groups>Tasks will disable the local scan task? I've set up ODS tasks here before and all I got was both the Groups task AND the Local task being enabled.

I want to set the workstations to scan just once a month, which is easy to do with a group scan task such as this, but the local task on each machine continues to run every Friday at 8pm. (Which turns out to be every Monday morning at 9am as most of the machines are powered off by 8pm). I'd even be happy if I could somehow change the scheduling on all the local tasks.

Also there are no locks on the settings for this task, which settings are you referring to being locked up?

You can change that local Task only directly at the Machine because it's a local task!
check for the tasks: if a task has a COGWHEEL Icon it's a local Task with a COGWHEEL Icon + a FOLDER Icon it's a global Task!
Steve Burkett
Yes, you can disable the local task indvidually (which is what I have done in the past), but what if you've got KAV deployed on 450 workstations? Or howabout 5000 workstations? Does one have to open each workstation via the Admin Kit and disable the task? That'd take days! And for any new workstations that are added, you have to remember to go in and disable the task? Surely this can't be right?
defekt
Go in AdminKit on the wanted Machine and click on Properties Task - here you can change the local task (think that's what you talk about!) i don't know any other possibility to do it sad.gif

Maybe there's the possibility of export & import the tasks ?! Think this can only be answered by Kaspersky directly because i can't see how to do this...
Steve Burkett
I have to agree with you Defekt. Anyone from Kaspersky got their ears on? Such a simple task this, surprised we don't see it more in the forums. What's the KAV user base?

Steve,

If you disable the predefined scan task in the policy, lock the settings, enforce the policy, create a new scan task inside the group folder of the group the scan applies to (or the global group folder for that matter) the newly created task will run and the predefined scan task will not, even though it will appear that the predefined scan task is still defined and enabled, it will not run. You can verify this by looking at a local workstations Reports-Task Log to see that after the predefined task is disabled and the new task is created that only the new task is being reported on the workstation.

The bug, in my opinion, is that after you disable the predefined task in the policy settings that it is not reflected in the Properties - Tasks of the workstations, as viewed inside the Admin Kit.

Ah ha! That does make sense! Thanks Mike, I'm gonna go and investigate whether they are actually running. (I'm secretly hoping they are as it'd explain why users are complaining about slow PC's on Monday mornings! smile.gif )

Hey Steve - maybe it's not the machines, maybe it's just monday mornin' wink.gif

But good explanation Mike i'll try it too...... THX!

Steve...what did you find out after you did this? Did the pre-defined tasks run still? Thanks!
