Hello,
I have a big problem with Kaspersky Anti-Virus for Linux File Server version 5.7.13. When it is running, it randomly hangs forever an I/O operation, so effectively crashing a service. On the production server in which it's installed, this is not acceptable. I am sure that the problem is related to Kaspersky AV because:
1)when it isn't running the problem NEVER happened
2)I wrote a bash script to copy one-by-one a lot of known-clean files in a folder included in KAVMonitor path and it always hangs, sometimes after 1 hour, sometimes after 4 or 6 hours, but it stops. With KAV stopped and kavmon unloaded from kernel, it works forever.I must stop KAV also to do full backups of /DATA partition otherwise it hangs.
In /etc/opt/kaspersky/kav4fs.conf I had choosen to scan only a single folder, and sometimes services that have nothing to do with this folder, hang. ONLY when KAV is running.
As a counteraction I've temporarily installed ClamAV (and now the server is rock-solid), but I strongly prefer to get KAV working properly.
The O.S is Debian Etch (stable) with 2.6.20 vanilla kernel (from www.kernel.org).
I noticed exactly the same problem also on a test machine with Debian Lenny (testing) and a self-compiled vanilla kernel.

Thanks for the forthcoming help.

Did you try to open a support ticket at http://kaspersky.com/helpdesk

we still do it since month, but no answer
=> actually for the daily work, we stop the antivirus on the server and schedule a daily scan on the night.

When will Debian Etch (currently *STABLE* for Debian's developers, which are notoriously conservative) be supported?

I can change the kernel but I can't downgrade to a kernel older than 2.6.20.
Can someone suggest a "hack" to try to get it working?
Maybe running it inside a VM and somehow "submitting" new incoming potentially infected files to scan to the VM? (goodbye performance, but if it works I can consider it as an option)
Has kavmon an option to enable debug output for example in logs?

supy,
I see that you have my same problem.
What's your kernel/distribution? maybe we can find what features our configurations have in common.
Have you already tried latest kernels / different patchsets? (gentoo, debian, con kolivas -cks,...)

SLES 9 sp3. 2 majors issues (fs 5.7.17.1):

- incompatiblity between the services named and kaspersky
=> sometimes the named services shut down and we can't restart him. Only the shutdown of the kas fs allow us to restart him. Restarting kas fs after cause again a shutdown of the named service

- regulary the system hangs by read actions (simplely open a shared directory on the server and the result may up comes more minutes later)

As conclusion: don't hesitate to open also a ticket on the support ... May be they will really see, that there are some open issues and take all this points in accound.

I had it oops immediately after install (corrupting my RPM database in the process), and then freeze later, after the RPM database had been repaired, when "very little" was going on... My system is vmlinuz-2.6.22.7-57.fc6 ( actually, was vmlinuz-2.6.22.1-32.fc6 ) -- that's pretty close to the target system requirements. ... Is it far enough away for Kaspersky not to support it? What about FC7 ( which is out now ), and FC8 ( which comes out in Nov? ) -- Fedora Core EOLs on a short time-frame, compared to other distros.. does Kaspersky plan to keep up?
