I want to install kaspersky administration toolkit
but when I want to connect to the mySQL of my hosting I can’t connect (just the message unable to connect)
the database is not an localhost database but php.your.name

what would be nice is to give me another program that is able to connect to a mysql database so I can see where the problem lies

or maybe just what I exactly have to fill in
Whizard
I do not think remote databases are supported. It has to be on your local LAN smile.gif
moppentappers
that is crappy lol
I place a PC next to mine.. how do I need to set the connection up so it works?

Which version of MySQL do you use?

Only 5.0.41 or 5.0.45 are supported.
moppentappers
the remote is latest version is only what I know,
but how do I need to set up the connection?
Whizard
Try connecting from the command line first and see if that works.
moppentappers
how can I use command line? lol
Whizard
Everything you need to know is in the Manual:
http://dev.mysql.com/doc/refman/5.0/en/can...-to-server.html
moppentappers
where can I find how to install an mySQL server that works with KAK?
Whizard
Just download Microsoft SQL 2005 Express and install it on your local server. You might find Guides posted on those pages useful too:
http://support.kaspersky.com/ak6mp1
moppentappers
on the same PC would be alright?
so the mySQL on the same PC as KAK
Whizard
Yes.
moppentappers
Ok I now have installed that think how can I connect to the SQL?

If you got the Express version, you must also grab MSSQL Management Studio (30MB approx) or do you mean the AK? Do you have it installed already?
moppentappers
I have installed that management studio thing
what should I do now?
really thank! couldn't do it without you
Whizard
1) Ensure the following processes are running on your machine:
sqlwriter.exe
sqlbrowser.exe
sqlserver.exe

2) Attempt to reinstall your AK
moppentappers
there not active, and I cant find how to activate the processes
and I need the host server ore something and login information that I just dont have I think
Whizard
Than you need to go back and reinstall MSSQL before you install AK smile.gif
moppentappers
but mySQL is fully installed O.o

MySQL Migration Toolkit
MySQL Administrator
MySQL Query Browser
MySQL System Tray Monitor

SQL Server Management Studio Express

i'm really sure I installed everything alright.
Whizard
Ok do you see sqlserver.exe running in Task Manager. If not please start it up.
moppentappers
SQL Server Management Studio Express
should bring that up? but it dont
Whizard
Configurational Tools >> SQL Server Configuration Manager

Under SQL 2005 Services, ensure that everything has been started.
moppentappers
the thinks you named processes are not running, but they are running as services
isn't that what you mean't?
Whizard
Post the output of the following command than:

Start >> Run >> cmd /k netstat -ao|find "sql" {OK}
moppentappers
C:/users/Glenn
Whizard
sorry the command should be cmd /k tasklist /svc | find "sql"

If you are running Windows Vista, I do not think AdminKit is compatible with it just yet.
moppentappers
I can just try
Whizard

Yes you can try to invoke the AdminKit installer and see what it says.
moppentappers
I'm really happy now! the setup his job and I think it is going to be alright
really really thank you!
and you're knowledge is really amazing.
setup is now done, KAK is now downloading updates and that all seems to go fine?
but one question, (i'm living in holland, this is just an example)
how can I manage my PC in las-vegas when i'm in new york?
Whizard
You need to have a public IP, which faces the Internet on your AK Server. You can also instruct clients not to disconnect from AK server. However, AK does not need to be always online. NetAgent will automatically sync up the policy once computer is online and connectivity is established. Since you have local machines (in Vegas as you say), it might be a bit easier to instruct them to download updates from Kaspersky Servers and use AK for managing policies only. But however its all up to you really smile.gif

Basically its like this:
Clients with NetAgent <> AdminKit, with Net Agent (master policy distribution etc) >> Internet/VPN Cloud << AdminKit (a slave server)<>Clients with NetAgent

However, for local LANs I would recommend Slave AK Servers, which are closer instead of clogging up the Internet, since WAN connectivity is expensive.
moppentappers
so an non static IP? thats alright.
so I need to get network agent installed?
know the IP? and the most important thing is I can remote control.
and what about serveral PC's behind a router? how can I choose witch PC I need to manage?
Whizard
1) Static would be better
2) You need to install NetworkAgent on all client machines, except the machine where Administration Server is installed (it already has one by default)
3) You can remotely control the program yes. However, this is not a Citrix or a Terminal Services application. NetAgents are configured with an IP, netBIOS or a FQDN name of the server in point one. Thats why I said static IP is better. From there they will appear in AK console and you can manage them

Note: Only "Kaspersky for Workstations" products can be remotely managed. If you are trying it to do that with home products, you are out of luck. They simply dont support AK control.
moppentappers
but remote control just like VNC you know
Whizard
Sorry, KAV will not allow remote control tools to click on its "Alert Windows" and other configurational settings unless you switch off Self-Defense. That is why AdminKit was written for remote control.
moppentappers
thats an cool function, but am I able to remote controle just like VNC?
Kaspersky is what I let the user of the PC install, (or install it myself, and instruct the user to switch on self defence)
but I need it to help with problems, keep the machine up to date and so on.
Whizard
You cant unless you disable Self-Defense, which would also leave program/registry entries open to malware modification. (that is of course if it has a slim chance to exute and wreck havoc). You can configure the local Updater settings to reflect your own schedulle. And also configure additional notification settings via email, when tasks are executing. I dont think AdminKit would be a feasible solution if you do not have logical LAN or ActiveDirectory grouping of machines.
moppentappers
VNC itself is with self defence on able to take over the machine
and I cant do that with administration kit?
Whizard
VNC will NOT be able to take over with WKS Self-Defense ON. But AK will be able to. The only drawback your are somewhat limited in what you can do with AK.
moppentappers
I wanted to install network agent.. but what do I need to fill in on the server address field?
Whizard
The IP address of the AdminKit server smile.gif
moppentappers
but the server is behind a router.. and the PC I want to control is behind the same router
how does the network agent now witch PC he has to contact?
Whizard
You need to configure and open the ports. Or create a DMZ smile.gif
moppentappers
the ports are open.. that is not the problem
but what do I need to set at the server address field?
Whizard
The IP address of the server is setup in TCP/IP configuration on the NIC on the SERVER machine.
moppentappers
so what I have to fill in there can be 192.168.2.3?
moppentappers
so what I have to fill in there can be 192.168.2.3?

edit: sorry for double posting, but site was a bit slowley (504 error)
Whizard
That is your internal IP adress. You can enter that in NetAgent configuration. However, keep in mind it will not be reachable through the public Internet space, as it is reserved for private usage.
moppentappers
I wil try that today then
