Hi all,

I hope someone can help with the Administration Kit.

I have the kit loaded onto my Server, via the kit I can start and stop tasks on the Server without problem, I can also start and stop Applications via the right click menu.

When I try to do the same on any workstation I get the terse error message "Cannot Start The Task" with no other hint as to why, and the stop and start are grayed out on the applications right click menu

I have loaded the kit onto my workstation and the situation is identical, I can control tasks on the server but not on any workstation.

I have full administration rights on the server and workstations.

Attached is a jpeg file showing the dialog and error message

All help appreciated
Mike

Try rebooting the problematic machines. And then invoke the following command klnagchk.exe -restart. Than refresh the AK console and Force Syncronization. Will that work now?

That is correct behavior. That means the setting is locked by the policy on the AdminKit server.

So I am correct in saying that you cant control custom scans you created for your Workstations?

Tried the above but synchronization fails with "Cannot synchronize host settings now, operation will be completed after the host becomes available on the network" however the host is available on the network, as are all the others.

>>So I am correct in saying that you cant control custom scans you created for your Workstations?<<

Yes, I think, that is I have policy's set to unify scans, security etc on differing groups. With that in mind I have disabled the overall group policy and the sub group policy covering some computers to see if this was the cause. I still get the same error message and the "cannot sync" message as mentioned above.

Whizard
Well what is the icon of the problematic machine?
Mike_W
Sorry, you lost me there, the Icon??

Bye the way its not just one machine but all workstations this happens on.

Try to upgrade to AK build 1500. Andkaz, posted into one of the threads in this forum. Perhaps that error will be solved.

Hi Mike.
What about the firewall on each workstation? Look at the Exception tab on the firewall, check the File and Printer Sharing. Then try to synchronize the workstation. If same problem still occur, at the workstation, open My Computer go to Tools --> Folder options --> View tab --> uncheck "Use simple file sharing", Apply and OK.
Hope that will help.

Mike_W
Thanks for that SeBerkk,

Tried it out with great hopes, unfortunately, no go.
File & printer sharing checked already, via group policy. Tried the folder options and it made no difference.

I appreciate the thoughts though.

Hello Mike,

Upgrading to AK 1500 fixed the issue for me. Read more here:

Hello Whizard (and other contributers)

MANY thanks for your interest and help, upgrading to AK 6.0.1500 has done the trick.

I took a backup but it was not needed, package installed over current without problem and now works properly and much faster. Seems to be an improved interface too as an extra.

Once again many thanks to all who found time for suggestions and to you for the winning one.

Best regards
Mike
Whizard
Great, now enjoy the product!

I am also having the problems described here, but the link to AK 6.0.1500 no longer works. Is there an alternate download site?
