Full Version: UPS WorldShip won't Launch after Install
Kaspersky Lab Forum > English User Forum > Protection for Small and Medium Businesses
FORDBLUECHEVYRED
Hi,
First Post here.
I've just completed a couple of Business Optimal 10 seat installs and our shipping system (Windows 2000 SP4 BUILD 2195) has UPS WorldShip 9.0. After the install of Kaspersky (VERSION 6.0.2.678) we cannot launch this application.

I have tried to uninstall and reinstall from the local system vs over the network.
I found one topic on this forum but it lead nowhere.
I added the world ship apps to the trusted zone but it didn't help

Only when I uninstall Kaspersky will world ship function.

I have also sent a request to Kaspersky support but haven't heard back from them.

I could use whatever help or suggestions that may be out there..

Thanks in advance.

Kim

Try it with disableing the Anti-hacker and Pro-Active defense, this should help!
Also don't forget to untag the realtime scan of network drives.

I just have uninstalled Kaspersky for the 3rd time on this system.. I can only use or gain access to this PC for an hour or so per day and I have to spend time reinstalling it just to get it to the point of reproducing the problem ....So I may not be able to try your suggestion for awhile yet.

I have been working with Kaspersky support and with UPS World Ship support and UPS support has given me names of 5 executable files that need to have "unrestricted access/use" and I have added them to the trusted zones with all check boxes checked and per Kaspersky support suggestion, have added them to the exclusion list as well.

When that did not work.. Kaspersky has asked for a copy of the application to test.. So I may have to spend time and get the CD to them and wait until they can troubleshoot it.

Thanks for the reply and I will post back when I get new info.

Oh... I just thought of another "something to try" ...my system is similar to the one that is failing so I can just install WorldShip onto mine and do the tests you recommended.

Cheers

hello
try activating the compatibility mode in settings->service (compatibility mode with programs using self...) & reboot,
mboy
No issue here with UPS worldship 9 Build 34 and the latest version of workstation 6.

Works just fine on my Xp machine.
FORDBLUECHEVYRED
Ok here is what I have done and "learned"

I was able to install UPS WorldShip (WS or UPSWS from now on)
onto my PC. It is running Windows 2000 PRO as well.
I have Kaspersky installed prior to the WS install.
My system is AOK with launching UPSWS regardless if Kaspersky is turned on or off.

Thinking that the Kaspersky was installed prior to the UPS WS on my system I uninstalled UPS on the failing PC, installed Kaspersky reinstalled UPS WS. I had Kaspersky disabled during the UPS WS build.
UPS did come up during the last part of the build but I didn't have to launch it but it automatically does it itself as part of the install.

I then shut down WS and tried to relaunch from the desktop icon (Kaspersky still disabled) and it comes up with the same "unknown exception" thing.

Odd thing is when I launch WorldShip it takes 10-15 seconds to load the application , this is normal, and then it hits the part where it fails and gets the unknown exception. But when I launch the app right afterwards
the failure is much faster to come up.

Well I have uninstalled Kaspersky again, I did try the suggestions from
defekt and from lucianbara and read the note from mboy and I thank you all for the suggestions but they did not get me to "working" yet.

If any of you have a good trace program that you can recommend to see just what is happening when the failure occurs I would like to hear from you .

Best Regards
Kim

A little more information.

I now have determined that if I disable Kaspersky then reboot this system so Kaspersky doesn't startup on the reboot, I then can launch World Ship OK. Then if I shut down World Ship and reenable Kasp[ersky I cannot launch World ship again until Kaspersky is disabled and the system rebooted as above.

So disabling Kaspersky from the taskbar doesn't "disable" it enough or it doesn't do something that needs to happen vs what happens while it is disabled and rebooted.

That sort of rambled on but I think you get my drift.

I also noticed that the PC in question only has 256MB of memory and World Ship recommends 512MB. I have ordered another 512MB for this system but I don't think that is the problem. My sytem now has World Ship (Windows 2000 Pro and 768MB of memory) and Kaspersky installed and it works fine. I pulled out 512MB on this system and made it 256MB and rebooted and World Ship and Kaspersky still work OK with each other.

I am having the same issue.
Some additional info that may help us come to a conclusion.
My worldship machine was also the testbed for downloading and installing version 5 (evaluation) everything worked perfectly. After purchasing Version 6 and push installing from an admin server to all my machines including the Worldship machine, worldship fails to run. In all other ways my experience is the same as yours.
Previous posts are not exactly clear to me in one case, If I boot with Kaspersky not starting I can start worldship then re-enable kaspersky and both worldship and kaspersky seem to run fine together until I shut down worldship then It will not re-start without rebooting with kaspersky disabled.
FORDBLUECHEVYRED
stevekh,
Sorry you are having problems too.. Have you made any headway in resolving it? I have since upgraded the memory on this failing system from 256MB to 768MB but it did not help the problem.

I did not think it would but it makes the system run a little faster.

Anyway, I have sent a copy of World Ship to Kaspersky support and just now sent a copy of the system info text from their utility.

World Ship support has sent me a copy of the items.. ports, programs etc..that need to have free access ...

I haven't had time yet to get to that system and poke around to enable or check all of them yet but will in the next few days.

I hope this can get sorted out soon.

Have they found a solution to this problem? My WS was working fine for several weeks. The only way I could get into was if I rebooted and launched WS before Kaspersky's services started. I get the same thing, and it dies at 22% of launch having something to do with PolicyManager of UPS. Hope this helps those guys, it was driving me nuts!

Yes there is a solution. We now have World Ship and Kaspersky playing in the same playpen together.
This is what I had to do to get it to work.

I have disabled "Self-Defense" , enabled the “Compatibility mode for programs using self-protection methods” option

Rebooted and finally World Ship is able to launch with Kaspersky active.

Hope this helps you.
jacko
Here is my experience.

Worldship 10.0 + Kaspersky Business Security 6.0.3.837

I attempted the suggestion in the final post here(I have disabled "Self-Defense" , enabled the “Compatibility mode for programs using self-protection methods” option) but the problem continued.

I noticed this same user had attempted to reinstall UPS previously so I decided maybe that was teh missing piece of my puzzle.

INTERESTINGLY during the reinstall Kaspersky identified a Worm. I checked the child processes and many were related to the UPS install. I allowed this process rather than blocking it, and after the install Worldship now functions.

There must be some piece of UPS WS that Kaspersky sees as a Worm and blocks.

So it seems the steps to make this work are first to uninstall Worldship assuming it was installed before Kaspersky. Next, change the two settings mentioned above in (). Now that I am thinking about it there is a possibility these settings don't need to be changed, but at this point after a half days work I am just happy to have UPS and Kaspersky playing in the same sandbox.

Hope this helps someone else out there.
