Hi

I've just installed KAV 5.0.712 for Windows Workstations on a PC running Windows 2000 Pro. It's a fresh install of Windows with up-to-date windows updates. The PC has 4 HHDs setup in a RAID 1 array.

After installing KAV, I also installed the admin kit, and MSDE 2000 SP3 as I was planning to manage the system from here.

I was instructed to reboot the PC to complete the installation. Windows never came back. sad.gif

If I leave it to try to load, it gets as far as the Windows splash screen and the progress bar gets about two thirds across. Then the whole PC resets and starts with the POST screen again.

I can get into safe mode, but I'm lost as where to start looking for the problem.

...normally i would say there was another AV installed before but it can be also a problem with a network card. have you tried to unplug all networkcards and reboot machine ?!

the network card is onboard, so I tried disabling it in the BIOS. No change.

I've checked the event viewer, and found the following errors specific to each attempted load, and both from the Service Control Manager:

CODE
The system event notification service depends of the COM+ Event System service, which failed to start because the following error:
No attempts to start the service have been made since the last boot.

CODE
The following boot-start or system start driver(s) failed to load:
kl1
klif
klmc

How did yu do the installation of the products? Login as local admin and you had the files on the same machine (locally) etc... no installation via network! right?

If the components klif etc. will not start something went completely wrong.
Is your system time & date correct ?!
stooby
all files were local, no network was used during install.

was installed as local admin.

date and time are correct.

so, if things went wrong during install, is there a way I can uninstall the software to try again? In safe mode, there's no obvious way to uninstall anything.

Even in safe mode you can normally uninstall applications by Add/remove programs menu.

Try to start in selective mode (Start > Run > msconfig)
Uncheck all services except from Microsoft and Kaspersky Lab's and boot in normal mode to see if it helps

After the initial problems of there being no msconfig in Windows 2000, I 'borrowed' one from an XP install. Exactly the same problem when in selective mode and only MS and Kaspersky services starting. I tried to switch off Kaspersky service too, but still got the same problem.

Are you thinking that the problem is bigger than just a bad install of kaspersky?

I'm having the exact same problem, the temporary solution I have found in this thread: http://forum.kaspersky.com/index.php?showtopic=41642

Boot in Safe Mode, Open up Device Manager -> View -> Show hidden devices -> Non Plug and Play drivers -> Klif. Double click and on tab Driver -> under Start up select option Demand.

I also had to disable the KL1 Driver...

Now I am wondering if Kaspersky is planning on fixing this anytime soon?
