OK, I am having 3 problems that maybe you guys can help me out with. One of them might not be a problem at all....

First two problems...

After installing KAV for Fileservers (5.0.77) on our Fileserver we are now having two problems. The first is a really weird one. If someone opens an excel file from our file server, makes some changes, and then clicks on 'save' to save their changes, Excel says that it cannot save it, and has to rename it to DF4DFCA (any random 8 characters) and then closes Excel. This is from Excel on Office 2000 SMB.

The second problem, is saving any other office document to our file server is SLOW...... I have had more calls in the past two days saying it's taking FOREVER for simple quick saves. I have verified this by going to their desks, click on SAVE, and watching a 100k file take about 30 seconds to save. What is going on?

The third and final problem....

This might not be a problem, but I wanted to make sure. When I look at the processes on our file server, after installing KAV for fileservers, the process KAVMM.EXE is showing up 5 times, each taking up around ~20 - 60 megs. Is this normal???

Thanks in advance for any help....

Hi!

Your 1st 2 problems should be gone if you disable the realtime NETWORK DRIVE scan on the FileServer & Workstations - this scan alsways slodowns machines!
Also you've to exclude ALL databases from realtime protection.

3rd and last problem is normal if you've a machine with 1 CPU the process runs 2 times and if your machine uses hyperthreading the process runs one more time!
this means you've a dual-core or 2x cpu machine with hyperthreading running rolleyes.gif

..but it is possible to reduce the processes with this technote:

You can change the number of processes by going to this registry key: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\KasperskyLab\Components\2A\FileServer\5.0.0.0

There should be several subkeys there: BL, P0, P1, P2, P3 and P4. You can delete (or better, rename to something like "_P3") subkeys P2, P3 and P4 and restart the antivirus service.

btw. use it at your own risk wink.gif

Won't that stop the anti-virus from picking up viruses if it's disabled?

*edit*
Also, where in the world do I disable that? I can't find it anywhere....

If will not longer scan Network drives that's all and this MUST be disabled !!

And NO this will not disable the realtime scanner! the realtimmer scanner is for scanning your filesystem and if you scan filesystem and networkdrives you'll have an enormous slow-down!

You can find that option under real-time scan - just untag Networkdrives wink.gif

Sorry for being such a noob here... but after I installed the KAV for fileservers, there were absolutly NO programs or icons to administer the Antivirus ANYWHERE.

So, the only thing I have figured out, is to administer it with the admin kit, however, I can't find that option anywhere... where is it in the admin kit, or, is there a better/easier way to administer the KAV on my fileserver. There isn't even a systray icon!!!

Thanks.

Find here an UNSUPPORTED FIX to have a GUI for the FileServer - otherwise you've to install the NetworkAgent
& the Console from the AdminKit (which can be downloaded for free on the Kaspersky hompeage) and everything else can
be found in the documentation of WKS, FS & AdminKit (sorry, if you're new to it you really should use the documentation).

EDIT:
Can't POST the Fix here because of missing filespace - send me a PM with your email and i'll email it wink.gif
