Hi to all,

I had installed KAV file server and admin kit. Now i m able to see all PCs in the network in a workgrp enviroment. I had syn all password as administrator in the workgrp pcs and open required ports in the workstation. The pcs are running xp sp2 and sp1 for some. But during the push install, i encounter "\\example\admin$" access error. can anyone help? This is all done in KAV version 5.

Thanks
Micha

Hello,

Do you have "Simple File Sharing" deactivated on all machines?

Greetings

Must i do it one by one? Pls advice.

I think you will do it one by one.
If you have an administration rights, you can use the remote access (RADMIN, VNC) to disable each simple file sharing.

Hi,

Try to access to \\example\admin$ from the Administration Server with Windows Explorer and check the account settings in the deployment tasks.

Hi, i had tried to access \\example\admi$ from the server running admin kit but i m not able to get in to the share. I had check the Share session on the client PC but i do not see the option of allowing me to add in users to the share or edit permission.

Thanks pls advice.

Now it is clear that it's a problem of the share. You should recreate administrative share.

What filesystem do you run ... XPpro with build-n Firewall ??
If yes check under services if the service 'Windows Firewall/Shared Internetconnection...' still runs because this runs often even if you deactivate the SP2 Firewall at all.

I had open the port for 13000/14000 n 15000. So the buildin firewall shouldnt be a issue right?

Simple File Sharing is also called "Force Guest"
Google search that term.
Veritas has a knowledge base article.
HERE
I wrote a batch file to import a registry key during a login script. Worked on some, but I haven't got all my machines running the script yet.
Line looks like this:
CODE
regedit.exe /s forceguest.reg

Forceguest.reg looks like this:
CODE
Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Lsa]
"forceguest"=dword:00000000

I ended up having to do it manually on about 20 machines (out of 65)
This WILL mess up some shares users may have made, but oh well.

Once this is done, you can also use PSEXEC to execute programs remotely.
I actually started this because I wanted to change the Administrator password on my machines without having to go to each machine....(pspasswd.exe)
