this laptop was given to me with Kaspersky anti-virus 2009 already installed on it however today i got a message sayin i could upgrade to 2010 and everything would remain the same however after i installed it they asked for a activation code which i didnt have as i no nothing about the security all i know is that it is fully licensed and paid for

then i read all this stuff on the net and uninstalled 2010 and i dont no how to get the other version and i do not know how to get the activation code for it.. please help

You will need an activation code to use the product. At some point there was an activation code issued and installed to get 2009 to work on the laptop. There is an easy way to install a newer version (2010) and transfer the activation code in the process but it's too late for that if you've uninstalled 2009 (or installed 2010 over the top of 2009). You could go to whoever gave you the laptop and see if they have the original code somewhere. There are also places to store the code on Kaspersky's web page if the product was registered. It could be there also but the original owner would have to go there.
