Full Version: Admin Kit 8 - Workstation Policy & Scan Task

Mr Spot
This is driving me nuts.

Issue 1:
I've created a workstation Policy for MP4. I now want to go back and edit some of the settings to refine them and add some more trusted applications and zones etc.

However, if I select anything in the "Protection" tab I get an error message stating "Cannot create object's configuration page." And thus I can't edit anything. I don't want to have to redo all the settings from scratch ever time I need to make a slight modification. Any idea what would cause this issue? I'm running on Windows Server Standard 2003 with Exchange 2003.

Issue 2:
I've created a Group Scan Task for MP4 workstation clients. All it scans is "My Computer" with everything as pretty much default. However, when this runs on the workstations (set to run at 12pm to ensure all computers are actually on), it completely kills them. Performance is atrocious on any of the computers when one of these scan tasks is running and the setups are designed for CAD so most workstations have 8G of RAM or more. Looking in task manager, the resources usage seems to be minimal, but still kills performance. OS's are Vista Ultimate x64, 7 Ultimate x64, XP Pro SP3, and Vista Business x86

We are currently strongly considering scrapping Kasperksy and moving to Symantec End Point Protection SBE Essentials.

The only good news to report is the latest update has at least resolved our licensing issues...

Can we please have some support on these issues? I'm seriously over all the trouble kaspersky has brought. We switched to Kaspersky from CA etrust, and whilst its better in terms of actually blocking viruses, its doing it at huge productivity expenses!!

It's probably best you log a ticket for these types of issues you are having, you're not going to get the proper support on these forums unless another user has come across the issue and has some insight.

Also, I suggest you do some reading on Symantec forums before you take a jump to their SEP software, we actually moved away from their product to Kaspersky. I'd say that SEP has probably the WORST administration console I've ever worked with.

Thanks Rob, I've filed an SR. I'll take on board your comments on SEP. But personally, i'd prefer something with a bad admin console that didn't cripple our network/workstations than one with a great Admin Console that does cripple the workstations/network...

We are getting a new server in the next month, and would like a fresh start with that, so as not to make a mess of the registry etc...

I'm using Admin Kit 6 and still in the process of migrating all my SAV Clients, I haven't had any issues that are causing the crippling of workstations/networks. Although, when I first started testing the product I was having a number of issues but I worked with support to sort those out and come to policy that was working well.

My gripe with Symantec is that in the last 3 months we have had at least 10 workstations that got infected with trojans\virus even though their definitions were upto date. On many occasions we have found a trojan on a PC once Symantec was removed and Kaspersky installed. I find that it takes some time to get a policy that works well with kaspersky, if it's causing disruption many times it's because it's actually protecting the computer albeit at times with what seems overkill protection.

So in response to your statement I would rather have a great Admin Console, sort out the issues that are causing network and client problems and at least get proper protection in the meantime.

If you ask me, too many people jumped in and upgraded to Admin Kit 8 without proper testing and now complain about issues and that it should still be in beta. It's never a good idea to jump straight into a new product after release for your production environment.
