Hello,

I'm trying to set up daily automatic reports like i did for several KAV servers (version 6.0) on a 8.0 version. This server is a clean install. I remember configuring SMTP settings during the initial phase.

When executing the task, i get the error "Impossible to connect to SMTP server. Verify SMTP server's adress and port".

A Telnet connection (with port 25) works on this server.

Backup Exec automatic reports work perfectly (copying BackupExec SMTP configuration on the KAV server doesnt solve the problem).

I tried to use the default SMTP configuration of KAV server, then specify a particular SMTP configuration, nothing works.

Seems like a problem specific to KAK 8.0. Any feedback on this issue ?

Regards,
Helmut
Can you post a screenshot from your settings?

You need only three entries:

Recipient address.
Mailserver address.
SMTP port.

Sure, here is a link (extract from right-clicking -> "Properties" on the node "Reports and notifications" from KAK 8.0).

What is the reponse when you connect to test.com with telnet and port 25?

Can you post that please.

Can you trace the connection with wireshark?
Testeur09
Result of Telnet command :

"220 srvtest.mycustomer.com Microsoft ESMTP MAIL Service, Version: 6.0.3790.3959 read
y at Mon, 2 Nov 2009 14:43:26 +0100"

Sending a mail through command line seems to work.

I didnt check network with Wireshark yet, but both servers are connected on the same physical switch and no firewall are installed on both.

I'm an expert, but for me it looks like a problem with resolve srvtest to IP address.
Could you configure SMTP server by IP address or (if not) by FQDN eg: srvtest.mycustomer.com?

Testeur09
Same problem with FQDN and IP.

I checked twice network/DNS parameters, did nslookup tests, everything is OK.

It is necessary to specify an email address for the sender of these notifications.
Click on the "Paramètres" button and in the bottom of the new window specify a mail address which is authorized to send emails through your mail server.
It should be ok afterwards.

A working email adress has been specified since the beginning. I tried with ESMTP enabled/disabled in case of, but it didnt solve the problem.

It was very helpful when you use wireshark for troubleshooting.

Results of my tests so far :

Configuration A :
KAK French 8.0 on server1 (Windows 2003 SP2 French), Exchange 2003 SP2 on server2 : unable to send notifications
DNS Resolve test of server2 OK
Telnet test on server2 OK
Another software on server3 is able to send mail notifications with identical SMTP parameters through server2

Configuration B :
KAK English 8.0 on serverX (Windows 2003 SP2 English), Exchange 2007 SP1 on serverY : able to send notifications

Could it be some some kind of bug related to French version only ?

I will try to run Wireshark for more info if possible.

Problem solved : in last resort i tried to reboot the Administration server, and after the reboot the task works perfectly. Go figure dash1.gif
