Full Version: Conflicts with Epson receipt printers

Our library has recently switched over to Evergreen so that we can check out our books electronically and keep accurate records. We use an Epson TM-U220D receipt printer on a USB port. All was working fine...we could print receipts with no problem. Then I installed Kaspersky Internet Security 2010 into the circulation desk Windows XP machine. Suddenly, we can print ONE receipt (from a clean boot up) and then get error message "Unable to print. Fatal Error." for the next and all subsequent attempts to print a receipt for the patron who is checking out a particular book. Was on the phone with Epson for two hours...installed their latest drivers AFTER completely uninstalling the drivers that were on the machine (and remember too...working fine before all this) and got same problem. Took those drivers out (again COMPLETELY) and installed drivers from earlier time (i.e. older drivers) and got same problem. My question is, that is IF you've read this far and your interest is piqued, does Kaspersky have something going on that has "eaten" the printer functionality after the first receipt print job?

Here's the poop on my experiment. Was on the phone with Epson for two hours and never did solve the problem so I started looking at "after this, therefore because of this" logic. Went back to site (our library) and reinstalled the printer, since in frustration I had totally UNinstalled the printer when I left there yesterday. Disabled Kaspersky. Tested Evergreen client for printing. Everything printed fine consistently...one receipt after another. Enabled Kaspersky, tried to print a receipt to TM-U220D and got the "fatal error" problem. Didn't reboot machine or close and reopen Evergreen client...just disabled Kaspersky and printer started working again. I can now produce the error at will by merely enabling or disabling Kaspersky. Soooooo....I'm wondering what to do next. Don't really want to buy another AV program or uninstall the Kaspersky. Have to contact Epson now to close their incident number and inform them of what I've learned. Got any suggestions?

I'll have to submit the problem to them tomorrow...it's a holiday today.
